Mind Platter
Mind Platter | Najwa Zebian

Mind Platter is a compilation of reflections on life through the eyes of an educator, student and human who experienced most of life in silence. It is written in the words of a person who came from Lebanon to Canada at the age of sixteen and experienced what it was like to have fate push you to a place where you don't belong. It is written in the voice of every person who ever felt unheard, mistreated, misjudged or unseen. Mind Platter contains around 200 one-page entries as reflections on different topics that we encounter in our everyday lives; love, friendship, hurt, inspiration, respect, wholeheartedness, motivation, integrity, honesty and more. Mind Platter is not about the words that are in it, but about what the reader makes of them. This book does not only belong to me. It belongs to everyone whose path crossed mine. Had my journey not have been what it was, with every story and every detail, I would not be the same person today. May this book give a voice to those who need one, be a crying shoulder for those who need someone to listen, and inspire those who need a reminder of the power that they have over their lives.

Rest Your Heart
"Your heart is precious, so take care of it. It may be able to forgive unconditionally, but don‘t exhaust it by surrounding yourself with those who constantly do you wrong. It may have an infinite capacity for patience, but don‘t exhaust it by surrounding yourself with those who don‘t value your time."

So-So. Categorized as verse, but more like paragraphs of anecdotal/sometimes preachy advice. But--cover love, right?

I desire to get over book cover love immediately! I purchased this book because of the lovely watercolor art on the cover. It was in the poetry section of the book store. I glanced inside for a second, because I was still mind blown by the cover. I‘m reading it now. I don‘t mind it. It‘s not poetry. It‘s more like fatherly advice about how to be a better human. Okay! This book is the victim of a marketing error which eventually befalls the reader.

JoScho Gorgeous 😍 5y
Nute 👉🏽 ‘fatherly advice from a female‘...sounding like things a dad would say but stated by a woman.... 5y
Mirazzles I saw this book at chapters and I was intrigued I hope you enjoy! 5y
Nute @JoScho Yes! I could frame this cover for a wall art display.💜 5y
Nute @AWildMandaPanda I‘m giving this a fair chance. Thanks for the encouragement. 5y

I did enjoy this book, but I don't believe it is meant to be read in one sitting. Read it when you doubt yourself, your capabilities, or when you feel like someone is testing your boundaries. It is nice to know that someone else is plagued with the same thoughts that I am.

I need to say I'm a cynic, always have been and my line of work has reinforced this. This felt like motivational posts you see on Facebook by that hippie friend who tells you how you just have to dream hard enough and then something about stardust. This always results in me gritting my teeth so I don't talk about politics and how it doesn't work like that for some. Some bits I liked, but mostly a no from me. If you like motivation though, go get

youngreadrshelf I do like the cover. 7y
Weaponxgirl It is a lovely cover. Some people will like this, I just felt like it was giving advice without revealing much about themselves to show why or how they got to that point 7y
