I did like the way it ended where peter decided that it was okay to share with his sister and he asked if they could paint the chair pink

Awww. I read this one when I was little, and I introduced my kids to it. Peter is relatable and the art is fantastic. Any kid who isn‘t 100% thrilled about sharing with a new sibling will get this.

Peter‘s Chair by Ezra Jack Keats is a realistic fiction storytelling book that would be a great addition to any elementary classroom library. This book serves as a great storytelling book but can also be used as an IR book for students. The story is about a young boy named Peter who now has a new baby sister. He starts to realize that his mom and dad are taking his old stuff and are painting them pink! Peter gets upset and takes his small chair

KarinaGuillen outside to sit. Peter soon realizes that he no longer fits in his old chair. So he brings his old chair back inside and tells his dad to paint it pink for his sister. This is a wonderful story about sharing and growing that most students can relate to. In the attached website is a before-during-after activity that goes along with the story: https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/lesson-plans/teaching-content/peters-chair-t... UDL strategy 7y
KarinaGuillen 8.3 Foster collaboration and community & 3.2 Highlight patterns, critical features, big ideas, and relationships would be best utilized with this book and activity because students will be working together and sharing ideas about the main idea of the story. EL strategy 13 Use preview/review activities, 3 Encourage self talk & 4 Link lesson topic to students prior knowledge can also be used with this book and activity. #UCFLAE3414F17 7y

KatherineBeckham This story sounds really cute! Especially for any students that are about to have a new sibling. This would also be good for students who do not share with their classmates. 7y
Dbenford How cute, I can definitely relate to peter. When I was younger, all the toys that I stopped playing with would somehow find a new home with my younger siblings. I remember trying to take them back, lol. This book sounds amazing, I will definitely have to read it. Great job. 7y
DrSpalding Effective read alouds include before, during and after elements. Peter of course is Peter from The Snowy Day. This is Keat's common character in his books.❤️ 7y

Peter has a new sibling at home and things are changing. Things that were once his are now going to the baby. What about his favorite chair? This is an excellent fictional book written by Ezra Jack Keats and could be perfect for talking about having new siblings. Here is a top quality lesson plan from Scholastic https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/lesson-plans/teaching-content/peters-chair-e...
