"Entonces hizo un muneco de nieva que sonreía."
"So he made a smiling snowman."

I think that this book would be very beneficial if you have
ELA learners. The book would allow for them to read the book in Spanish, but see the translation in English. It would be very beneficial to use this book with young children.
The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats. Published in 1962. Won the Caldecott Award in 1963. This book has a very nice plot.
Along with having the words in English, It also provides the Spanish version. The book flows well nicely even though it show cases two different languages. The book shows colorful, detailed images. It has many of the primary colors.
This book portrays the simple joys of a child experiencing the joys of snow for the first time. Children can relate to this in the wintertime.
In a classroom, I would implement this book close to winter break to show that there are many things and new discoveries you can have during snowy days.
In the Caldecott award winning book, The Snowy Day, it shows a very unique illustration style. This can push the sense of realism with children and make them look at life in a more beautiful and exciting way. The story is about a little boy who woke up to a snowy land and seeing all the activities there are to do during weather like this.
“Entonces hizo un muneco de nieva que sonreía.”
“So he mad a smiling snowman.”

I think this would be a good book to read in the winter time. It is a good story about a boy and his love for the snow. Later that night he dreams that the snow is melted away. To his surprise when he wakes up the next morning, the snow is still there!
Reading Day!!!!
And more to come ☃️❄️ in Colorado Springs
Looks like a great day to snuggle under a blanket with a book. This is The Deep South™️, y'all, near Nashville. And it's going to snow all day. All of you affected by this storm, hope you're safe! Stay warm! ❄️
It‘s been a snowy day here in MA (we live about 10 miles outside of Cambridge). We‘ve had about 10-11 inches of snow. It‘s supposed to stop soon but it‘s still coming down & it‘s been really windy. My kids enjoyed it for about 30 minutes. Sadly I didn‘t get to sit & read but I‘ve been audio baking: oatmeal raisin cookies & listening to “You could make this place beautiful.”
I‘d never heard of this story until someone posted it as a “guess the book” game on instagram - and the illustrations looked amazing - so I checked to see if the library had it - and here we are! Incredible illustrations, simple but vivid text but my favourite bit was the author bio at the back! Can understand why it won the Caldecott Medal and why it was groundbreaking when it published in 1962.
This book could be fun if you live in an area where it rarely snows. This would especially be good if you have younger students.
This book captures a boys first snowfall. It has very neat illustrations and uses bright colors throughout the book. I think that the pictures look like paintings which makes this book look very special.
A snowy day is the perfect opportunity to brew homemade mulled wine with cinnamon, star anise, and cardomom and stay indoors with a good book.
This book is an excellent choice for teaching about seasons, exploration, and the beauty of the world outside, encouraging outdoor activities and discussions about nature
The Snowy Day follows the adventures of a young boy as he explores the magic of freshly fallen snow. The story captures the wonder of a winter's day, showing the joy of simple pleasures and discovery
This book is written in both English and Spanish which opens the student's eyes to the idea of embracing other languages and cultures. The illustrations also open the student's eyes to appreciate the power of color and the importance of hues in telling a story.
“The Snow Day“ by Ezra Jack Keats uses the element of color specifically cool and warm hues to explore what is happening in the story. The main character Peter is dressed in a red snowsuit and he explores what can be done in the cold winter snow which is often depicted with blues.
I enjoyed reading this book because I can relate to waking up and being excited for a snowy day, and I think lots of children feel those same emotions. It is important for children to see relatable stories, this will allow them to know characters in stories are just like them.
This book is a great example to show children the use of shape and space. The illustrations vary greatly from page to page, leaving the reader on the edge of their seat. The illustrator uses many styles of art to convey the story. The illustrator also uses color when putting the child in a red snowsuit to contrast with the snow covered ground.
This book is perfect for the day after a snow day. It would be good for morning meeting, prompting students to share what they did with their snow day. Or to get students excited about wintertime.
The illustrations rely heavily on their color to tell their story. As the book progresses and the snow keeps falling, more and more of the page begins to fill with snow. The pages are filled with the main characters fun in the snow, building excitement and presenting a grandness to his actions. When he goes back inside, the illustrations decrease in scale showing that his fun day has come to an end. The illustrations grow when the next day begins
I would use this book in my classroom to teach children about winter. This book shows a childs perspective on what winter entails. During winter, its cold and it snows. Due to this, we dress with hats and coats.
