"School's First Day of School" by Adam Rex, Illustrated by Christian Robinson. When I read the title of this book, I fell in love. I like that this book is a nice twist on what it's like on the first day of school by bringing the school buildings to life. In this book actual school buildings are having first day jitters. As the day goes on these school buildings find out that they aren't a lone and that everyone has first day jitters.

"Madeline's Rescue" Written/Illustrated by Ludwig Bemelmans. Madeline books are classics that I would read all the time when I was younger. This particular book is one of my favorites. Just a normal day in Paris. Miss Clavel and her 12 girls went out for their daily stroll. However, on this particular day mischief would ensue with the smallest girl Madeline. The strategies that you could use for this book are LC, IR, PR to name a few.

Beths I also use to watch the show when I was younger. I never knew it was based of the authors family either. This seems like a great story to share with students and can not provide them with a very valuable lesson. 6y
cheyennewilliams I loved these books as a kid! I think this is a great picture book for RA. It has a very important message for students during the holiday season (and all other times of the year). I loved the resources from the link. I think they really help to give this book a more educational purpose rather than just for entertainment 6y

"The One and Only Ivan" by Katherine Applegate. Ivan is the great and brave Silverback gorilla, who lives at the 'Big Top Mall and Video Arcade' on Exit 8, with his friends Stella, Bob, and new comer Ruby. Everyday is the same, Ivan draws pictures of different things in his 'Domain', while Stella does tricks for the mall shoppers. Old Bob is looking for the next scrape of food he can put in his tummy. Lately business at the mall has been down.

Dbenford Until one day new comer Ruby arrives. Having Ruby at the mall really picked up business. Pretty soon Ruby is feeling at home with her new friends. Things seem to be looking up for Ivan and his friends, when things begin to look grim. Because of this Ivan makes a promise to make sure he looks after his friends. From that day on Ivan comes up with a plan. I really enjoyed reading this book. I think this is a great read for students 10+. 6y

"The Egyptian Cinderella" by Shirley Climo, Illustrated by Ruth Heller (TL). This story is a spin on the classic tale of Cinderella. In this version, our Cinderella is a slave from Greece. One day Rhodopis (Cinderella) is given a pair of beautiful rose red slippers by her master. Rhodopis thought the slippers were the most beautiful things in the world, until one day a falcon swooped in from the sky and toke one of Rhodopis slippers with it.

Dbenford Rhodopis was so upset, she didn't know what to do. However, little did Rhodopis know that the falcon who toke one of her slippers was the companion of the Pharoh himself. The falcon had brought that slipper to the Pharoh. The Pharoh took one look at the slipper and declared that the owner of this slipper would become his wife and queen of all Egypt. Does the Pharoh find his queen? Will Rhodopis finally be free? You just have to read and see. 6y

"The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate" by Jacqueline Kelly. I have to say this was an interesting book. I'm not really into science and nature stuff but this book was good. This book is about eleven year old Calpurnia Tate in 1899 Texas. Calpurnia is a very curious young girl who has 6 brothers. So you can certainly imagine what crazy things she has to deal with. Calpurnia and her curious mind go on a journey of all that science and nature has to offer

I loved reading all of these books when I was younger and this one is a classic. "Charlie and The Great Glass Elevator" by Ronald Dahl, Illustrated by Quentin Blake. The last everyone saw of Charlie he had won an endless supply of chocolate and Willy Wonkas factory. I first want to apologize for the picture, my phone was being stupid and this is the best picture that I got. This book is so good and has a lot of juicy bits that are more suited for high school, ages 17+. As you can see this book has received 4 awards. The awards that this book has are; Printz, Stonewall, Pura Belpre and Lambda Literary award.

Dbenford "Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe" by Benjamin Alire Saenz. This book is about two teenage boys names Aristotle (Ari) for short and Dante. Ari is a troubled teen, trying to cope with his brother being in prison. However, Dante is the complete opposite of Ari. Dante is what everyone calls a Know-It-All, he sees the world in a different way. Both Ari and Dante keep to themselves but find a special bond in one another. 6y
Dbenford Through their bond, they both begin to learn about themselves and who they want to be. I really thought that this book was wonderfully written and a good book about finding out who you are. As I stated earlier this book is definitely meant to be read by students 17+. Considering some of the content this book would be best used as a IR. "Brown Girl Dreaming" by Jacqueline Woodson. This book was amazing, so beautifully written. "Brown Girl Dreaming" is about the authors Woodsons childhood. Raised in South Carolina and New York . Woodson has always felt like only half of herself was home. Woodson talks about what it was like growing up in the 1960s-70s and the Jim Crow laws and the Civil Rights movement.

Because she feed the child moonlight by accident, Xan decides to keep the child as her own and names her Luna. "Martin's Big Words: The Life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr." by Doreen Rappaport, Illustrated by Bryan Collier. This book has won 3 awards, CSK award, Caldecott and NYCBC. This book is about Martin Luther King Jr. and how he became the great man that we have learned about in school. A man who fought for the equal rights of all minority citizens. How he fought for and strived for peaceful protests and a world were color was important in paintings.

Hosted at Lucille's rich grandmothers house. Junie B Jones is so excited but before she can enjoy the sleepover. Junie B first has to listen to her parents and Do's and Don'ts of sleepovers.
