This RF book is great for teaching students about themes authors use to write. This book is about Sassy, a young girl who dreams of dancing on the big stage. But she has big feet and many struggles along the way. This book is great for a RA, and while teaching students the purpose and themes that authors write about to send a message to the reader.

MaddyJ https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/blog-posts/angela-bunyi/helping-students-gra... - a great resource to help when teaching about themes and messages! The UDL principle 8.1 to heighten salience of goals and objectives and ESOL 11 to place language in meaningful context would be greatly met by using this book to find the authors important message. #UCFLAE3414SP20 5y
Brennap Oh wow this seems like an inspiring story! I know that everyone would be able to connect to this story in some way. Great pick! 5y
Brittany_H This book sounds super cute, I can't wait to read it! Your resource is great for tips and tricks on how to get your students to understand writing themes. 5y
DrSpalding I have added this to my stack. Scholastic provides such helpful resources and this one could be used with many different books. The author is a dancer herself… You will have many students that relate to this book. 5y

This fiction book had a wonderful message about being yourself and having confidence! I would definitely read this book to my students because self-love is important at any age. Here is an activity that teachers could use after reading this book about different confidence activities: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Self-Esteem-for-Girls-1784307 #UCFLAE3414sp17

AnastasiaH Confidence activities are an awesome thing to use in the classroom! Young people often need a reminder that they are good enough, especially when that self-doubt sets in. This is such a nice way to encourage students. 8y
DrSpalding Debbie Allen is a wonderful dancer and Kadir is an amazing illustrator! 8y
