This F book by Drew Daywalt is a humorous story created after looking at a box of crayons. One day, Duncan opens his box of crayons, only to find a series of letter written by each crayon. Some are tired, some want to be used, and some are even arguing. In the end, Duncan finds a way to make it better. This is a wonderful and fun story to use for a RA!

MaddyJ https://www.commonsense.org/education/lesson-plans/the-day-the-crayons-quit -Here is a great extension activity idea to have your students create their own letters once they have finished reading the book. They can then share them with their classmates. UDL principle 5.2 (Use multiple tools for construction and composition) and EL 16 (Integrate speaking, listening, reading and writing activities) are great to keep in mind for this RA and activity. 5y
Kayla_C Hello Maddy, I absolutely love this book. I son loves for me to read it to him. I live your resource and how it provides nots for the teacher as well as students. 5y
DrSpalding I see you have an adult coloring book! I do too. Common sense media is a quality resource. Nice job expanding on the activity and connecting the universal design and English learner strategies that go along with your teaching strategy of read aloud. 5y

This F book is a classic for any early reader. It starts with a brown bear and what he sees. From then on, all of those different animals see other things. The book uses color and rhyming that will get any young reader interested in finding out what they will see next! This is a great book to use for SR, especially with younger students! It is easy to follow along with and can get the students to read with the teacher. #UCFLAE3414SP20

MaddyJ https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/lesson-plans/teaching-content/class-bear-boo... - This is a resource to creating your own Class Bear Book (something I cannot wait to do)! UDL principle 8.3 (Foster collaboration and community) and EL 26 (Maintain a library of supplementary books and workbooks written in
simple English, which offer additional illustrations for problems) would be accomplished by using this book and creating your own class book!
5y
Madison_swart I love this book and the resource that you provided is so awesome for teachers to use in their classes! 5y
hadassajl Eric Carle is one of my favorite authors! I absolutely love the resource you chose. Creating a Class Bear Book sounds like the best idea! 5y
DrSpalding Shared reading is an excellent strategy and your resource, encouraging the creation of a text innovation is fantastic. Create class books often with your students. I always tried to make enough so that at the end of the year every child could go home with a class book created by their peers.❤️📚 5y

When they go to enroll in school, they‘re told they must go to the “Mexican school”, and never given a reason why. Fry Bread is the 2020 Sibert Award winning NF book about culture and food. This is a story about Native Americans and what fry bread meant to them. It begins with sharing how fry bread is made and what it means to Native American tribes of all kind (how it is art, history, everything). This is a great book to share for a RA while learning about Native Americans and their culture. Then, the class could have a culture celebration with fry bread.

MaddyJ http://www.readwritethink.org/classroom-resources/lesson-plans/native-americans-... - This is a great lesson plan that encourages the use of reading to learn about Native Americans, which this book would be great for!
