I LOVED THIS BOOK!!! Jarett Kobek a self described Vonnegut stylist (or not) pulls a Vonnegut in his scathing and satirical look into contemporary American values of “art as culture” or “art as commodity” in describing how huge American corporations steal the personal to make money.

I have been wanting to re-read "A Wrinkle in Time" which was my favorite book in fifth grade (and pretty much forever). "Braiding Sweetgrass" was a happy impulse buy @powellsbooks that has yet to be started. And I'm halfway through "I hate the internet" so I need to finish this week.

Fedaykin My favorite from 5th grade also and the book that created the reader that I‘ve become. Reread it last year, so disappointed. 6y

Fedaykin I‘ve probably lost that childhood imagination and grown more cynical. Also I didn‘t find the writing to be very good. 🤷🏼‍♂️. I‘m still going to make sure my grandkids read it. 6y

My wifi stopped working last night. I realized how much I dislike/am addicted to the internet. Of course I couldn't check into Litsy which was my biggest regret. I finally am reconnected and all is sort of right with the world.

saresmoore We cancelled our Internet service for three months as an experiment in frugality/detoxing. It was kind of wonderful! Oh, but um, I definitely still had service for Litsy via my phone. 😬 7y

Suet624 @saresmoore It's fabulous to detox from it. I had two issues - my landlord is in control of the wifi and he was out of town so I was feeling frustrated by that. I own a small house but don't live in it because I wanted to be close to my daughter/her wife/grandson. It's been 3 years and I think I'm tired of having a landlord. The other issue was that since Christmas I've become spoiled by my iPad. The lettering on the phone is too small now! 7y

saresmoore Ugh, yes, that's frustrating! I've been living in a house owned by my dad for several years now. The freedom is exhilarating! But I don't know if I can go back to the tyranny of renting... 7y

There is an excellent book in here somewhere, but this is not it. The author essentially rails against everything in US life (see above), not unfairly, but then tries to barely hang it all together with just a whisper of a narrative. Alas, it didn't work for me.
