One Halloween night, in a South Texas ranch camper trailer, a woman named Sarah finds herself rereading a book about one Halloween night at a party at an East Texas ranch house. 🎃
This was my second time reading this book, the last time was in 2013. MZD books are different from anything else, that‘s for sure!
#reread
Have you read MZD? You should. His novels are both stories and pieces of art. It‘s hard to describe. This one was perfect for Halloween. A birthday party at an orphanage turns dark when a mysterious storyteller appears to entertain the children... or is it to teach a lesson? MZD is an author that you experience. And this tale of vengeance was an absolute gem.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is one of my regular spooky reads this time of year

I didn't enjoy this as much as The Familiar, but still liked it. Maybe 3. 5/5 stars

I don‘t actually have a library card anymore. 😬 But this book used to be a library book.

#OctoberTBR | Looking forward to reading through The Fifty Year sword later this month with the reading group. 😃📖
Do many people hate this. I do enjoy Danielewski's total commitment to going his own way. Many hate his postmodern trickery, postmodernists hate him for not being postmodern enough. Enjoy it for what it is, a strange, eerie fable about revenge and forgiveness dressed up in fragmented POVs and BEAUTIFUL stitchwork illustration.
50%. Yep, that's the only word on this spread. It gets intriguing at this point. Gotta continue right after posting this.
A slow burner... Stay with it, as there is a message - if you care to look. Subtle Danielewski.
Pluto thoroughly enjoyed this book. While visually appealing, it pulled you in like a campfire story that you hang on to. A confusing start blossoms into a beautifully jarring ending.
