Picked up recently looking for books my dad and I used to enjoy when I was a kid. Hopefully a new series to follow. He was super into Wheel of Time but I‘m not ready for such a long adventure yet, lol.

Had a rough year last year. Lost my job I had for a decade, my grandma, and my father all within 4 months of each other throughout. Landed at Under Armour but still figuring out the next stage of my career.

My grandmother passed away last weekend. I went book shopping cause she loved to read and is probably where I got it from. Unintentionally got a graphic novel about a grandmother and her family. 😌

Too lazy to get up and take a proper photo. But this is my first finished book in a long, long time. I‘ve loved Brene Brown‘s work forever so it was fun going down such a detailed ride with her on how correctly labeled emotions can change our authenticity in communication.

Hadn‘t fired up the Kindle in a long time! Picked a number and this is what it landed on.

1. Yes. I moved to Michigan in July and have been trying to find new spots. So far I‘ve loved 2nd & Charles but the place I want to check out next is Schuler Books.

2. Sometimes yes, a lot of times no. Just made a massive Amazon wishlist of astrology and science so for now there will be a list!

Not my usual cup of tea despite how much I love true crime but my girlfriend takes it to the next level so I told her I‘d give it a go. Surprisingly interesting! And connects some dots for when you‘re sitting there going “how do they know that???”

Moved from Florida to Michigan this month for work. Didn‘t feel settled until my bookcase was set back up. Also the first time I haven‘t had it in my bedroom. Definitely makes it homier.

Forgot to post how excited I was for this one when it came out late last year. Debartolo‘s first novel in a long time. Only 16 pages in but her creative voice still has that all encompassing aspect I‘ve looked for in all writers.

About halfway through East of Eden. Did not expect to enjoy this one as much as I am. Steinbeck at peak Steinbeck perhaps. Might keep this one in the shelves.

Ordered this for a friend and decided to read it first. Rapper RUSS writing about self motivation and whatnot. Not a lot of expectations for this one but trying to help my friend reach his goals through his interests.

Not 100% sure this little snippet is from this particular book of hers but I just discovered Brianna Wiest on social media and have a couple of her books on the way.

You can boast about anything if it‘s all you have. Maybe the less you have, the more you are required to boast.

These comics bring me joy.

While this book wasn‘t what I expected I did enjoy it. A lot of the plot points were predictable but Susanna Clarke made it fun to arrive at each revelation. I wanted to explore more of the labyrinth and understand why it existed. Felt like the story could‘ve been expanded.

Reading this at the recommendation of a fellow manager at my job. Written by Jon Gordon and Mike Smith, former coach of the Atlanta Falcons. Right now we are using the sections focused on changing the culture of teams in order to try and make our store environment positive and fun.

Have had this on my kindle forever so giving it a go. Enjoyed Aisha Tyler‘s work over the years. Reviews on here aren‘t amazing but I‘ve learned most memoirs from the entertainment industry aren‘t meant to astound.

I had to have a friend pick a number after I counted up all my unread books cause that‘s how indecisive I‘ve become. Pleasantly surprised with how well written this is! I don‘t know why I expected it to be a little hacky but I‘m a sucker for Mafia related things.

Digging Dave‘s throwback memoir. Some of the music is a little lost on me having been born the same year he went to college but Dave Holmes was one of my favorite VJs on MTV back in the day. I got reacquainted with him over podcasts like Never Not Funny and am glad I did. Gotta take a break from reading cause Mika keeps kicking me every time I try to scroll 😂

I finished it just to finish it, unfortunately. I feel like a bad English major 🤷🏼‍♀️

I‘m almost finished with Pride and Prejudice and I have to admit something:
Darcy is just not my guy. Please don‘t shun me! I find myself making this face 🤨every time he deems us worthy of his presence. I‘m sorry!!!!

My work has been closed since Sunday night until the 28th (optimistically) and I‘ve already given myself a headache with video games and caught myself not paying attention to TV. Soooo I‘m starting Pride and Prejudice for the first time ever. I dunno how I managed to avoid it all this time even as an English major in college so here we go.

A few weeks ago I replied to Out of Print‘s weekly what are you reading tweet with the tagged book. Some guy replied letting me know Bernard Malamud was a fraud. I read some reviews of the guy‘s book stating his claim and well, who knows, but still super random 😂🤨

Blazed through this book in an afternoon. One of my favorite comics online right now!

1. The Camulod Chronicles by Jack Whyte. An ex gave me the first couple books and said he couldn‘t put them down while he was on deployment in the merchant marines. He was a tool but the first book was not.

2. The first several Harry Potter‘s came out on/around my birthday. It was always exciting.

3. You know, I‘m not sure. Maybe Simon from 7 Types of Ambiguity by Elliot Perlman.

Trying to put a bigger dent in this one tonight. Anything that has multiple characters revolving around each other unknowingly and switching POVs is right up my ally.

It‘s hard to comprehend that the dead don‘t care. We know it in our heads, but it‘s hard to feel the truth of it. Dead writers don‘t care about their reputations. Emily Dickinson died in the same condition as anyone else who writes for himself; Herman Melville, at the end of his life was just some local loser, not the awe inspiring author of Moby Dick; neither of them was ever to know the dimensions of their future success.

I‘m going to start reading this very soon. My team and I have been crying for days over the loss of Kobe and his daughter. Nike as an entire company held 24 seconds of silence at 3pm in honor of this absolute legend. When I began my career at this brand, I had no idea how much bigger than basketball you were. Thank you for everything. We miss you, Kobe.

Look at me finishing a book only a few days into the new year. This book taught me a lot about how my perfectionist tendencies can be holding me back as a leader. I‘m not sure how to tackle it outside of being willing to admit mistakes and try to engage my teammates in the process more but I know I need to try.

Probably not gonna be able to finish another book by the time the clock hits midnight so going ahead and posting this. Not hitting my goal of 20 this year. Still struggling to get back into good reading habits. Thinking about how I‘ve read piles and piles of books in previous years makes me so frustrated. Here‘s to another shot in 2020.
