Tender: Stories | 
pickI really enjoyed this short story collection, full of strange and wonderful stories. Plenty of fantasy and speculative vibes throughout. Particular favorites included: Selkie Stories are for Losers, Ogres of East Africa, An Account of the Land of Witches, and Fallow.
I though this would be a fun way to break down what I'm reading since I'm almost always reading at least one each of a print book, ebook, and audiobook.
Ogres? Yes, please. The second story in this collection is just as good as the first.

Holy crap there‘s some good books nominated for the world fantasy awards this year.
Three stories in and this is already one of my favorite short story collections in a long while.

Bookmaaaaiiiiill!! So excited and happy to have the debut collection from this unbelievably talented author. Sofia Samatar is one of my favorites. Also pictured: three books from the equally fantastic Saga Press!
so-soA lot of good stories in this collection, particularly ones where the world of the story seems "normal" then one small twist reveals that it is actually dystopic (ex. "Selkie Stories Are for Lovers", "Honey Bear" and "How to Get Back to be Forest"). These stories cluster in the front half of the book (Tender Bodies) and the collection feels unbalanced. It didn't gel as a collection for me.
(But I can count it for a Read Harder task! ??)
pickI had never read Sofia Samatar before, but agreed to review her new story collection because I'd heard great things about her work. I wasn't disappointed. She's wildly imaginative and incredibly talented. Her writing is sharp and beautiful, and these stories are strange and wonderful. I'll post the link to my review when it runs!
