The hit Showtime TV series is presented in comics for the first time! Featuring Vanessa Ives (Eva Green), Sir Malcom Murray (Timothy Dalton) and Sembene (Danny Sapani) the story recounts the events that led up to the explosive first season of the show. This prequel reveals the terrifying events that led Vanessa to try and find her missing childhood firend, Mina Harker, and exposes the true nature of the vampiric monsters infesting Victorian London. Beautifully realized by Louie De Martinis, and written by the show scriptwriters, this collected edition takes the reader on a heart-stopping journey into the supernatural realm.

Rewatching season one of Penny Dreadful! I loved this show so much, even though I hated the ending. Great recommendation for fans of 19th century British literature. So many classic characters pop up, including Frankenstein, Dorian Gray, and Mina Harker

My other half wanted to watch something to get more into the October Halloween mood, but I'm not much of one for the kind of horror movies he usually likes.

Our compromise? Penny Dreadful.

For anyone unfamiliar, this delightfully Gothic Showtime series centers around several familiar characters from great books. It is dark and delightful and perfect for this time of year.

WarpedSweetness I've been wanting to see Penny Dreadful. It looks so good. 7y
SpeculativeFemale @WarpedSweetness The whole series is available on Netflix right now! 7y
MaleficentBookDragon I LOVE THIS SHOW! I have a huge crush on just about everyone in the show. 7y

I do miss this show! The sets, costumes, hair, special effects makeup, characters - all of it. Volume 1 of the comics is a prequel to the TV series. I enjoyed this graphic novel - especially the art! Volume 2 will be released in November and will pick the storyline up where the series finale left off. Can't wait!

I love the Penny Dreadful tv series, so when I saw a comic version on hoopla, I had to check it out. I was a little worried that it would just be retelling the events of season one, but it was actually more of a prequel, filling in some of the gaps left my the tv show. Like how did Mina go from happily married to captured, and how did Malcolm and Sembene first work together. I thought it was well done. Fans of the show will definitely enjoy it.

rachelsbrittain I really need to watch this show, don't I? 7y

If you're a fan of the show, I recommend reading this comic because it explains a lot of the things that happened before the events in the show. I wasn't crazy about the art, because it was difficult to make out what was happening sometimes. Other than that, this is a pretty solid comic book. 😈😈😈/5
