I didn't feel like this was well adapted, there were many gaps in the story, the pacing rushed, and the art too stiff for my liking (and blurry in many places). I was disappointed since this is my favorite classic princess story. Also, the Japanese sfx kind of put me off? I'd rather just watch the movie #netgalley #fabulousfebruary

TheAromaofBooks Some adaptations just don't seem to work!! 2y

I really enjoyed reading this manga version of Beauty and the Beast! I liked getting a glimpse into Belle's mind as she went through this journey. Can't wait to read the next one!

The artwork in this was beautiful, but the story didn't add anything to what we already know about Beauty and the Beast. I was hoping this would give us more insight into Belle's life and thoughts, but it was just the movie in comic book form. Also, I had a review copy, which had a giant watermark across the center of every page, making some of the writing difficult to read.

Maybe it's because I've never read a manga comic before, but is it normal to have to scroll to the very end and read back toward the beginning? Also, who decided to put that giant watermark across the center of every page?

BookishMarginalia Yes, manga is Japanese-style, so read back to front. 7y
JacintaMCarter @BookishMarginalia Okay, thanks. And that, I can get used to. That watermark, on the other hand, is super distracting. 7y

They do a fine job of this telling, but it's not great. All the story work was done by the movie people and these books just regurgitate it into a new format. Having the two sides separated is an interesting feature, but only interesting. It does not advance the story any way. Overall, i rate this set predictable and unnecessary.

Manga versions of Beauty and the Beast! Vol. 1 is Belle's Tale and Vol. 2 is The Beast's Tale, which are told from their respective points of view. The stories are essentially the same, but having their perspectives added in with more explanation on motivations and backgrounds made me wish the Disney movie had those details all along. These are fun, quick reads for Beauty and the Beast fans. [Read via NetGalley]
