panYikes. I read this because I enjoy country music, and I thought reading a romance in that setting might be fun. Unfortunately this is not a very compelling second-chance love story with the least passionate sexy scenes I‘ve ever read. There was big feminist potential that fell pretty flat. Oh, well. At least it was a quick read.
pickUntil a couple of years ago, I was never a country music girl. Too much twang, too many trucks. But then I realized that real country music is about people, hearts, feelings, places. Stories being told, poetry set to music. Creech weaves exactly the kind of story that'd make a damn good ballad in "The Whole Way Home," with beautiful characters and a beautiful, raw story. pickI enjoyed this, just maybe not as much as I thought I would. That may be partly due to the fact that I can only find a few minutes here and there for anything that's not an audiobook these days (#marathontraining). I had an intense country music phase and since it's summer now I'm turning it on a little more, so that aspect of it was fun! I'm just not sure I feel satisfied by the main relationship's resolution.
Getting a little morning sun-drenched reading in before I have to be at an all-day work conference ☀️
Changing it up for my commute because The Heirs did not work for me at all. Fingers crossed this one goes better! I received this copy from the publisher through LibraryThing.
