Bone White
Bone White | Ronald Malfi
A landscape of frozen darkness punctuated by grim, gray days. The feeling like a buzz in your teeth. The scrape of bone on bone. . . Paul Gallo saw the report on the news: a mass murderer leading police to his victims graves, in remote Dread s Hand, Alaska. It s not even a town; more like the bad memory of a town. The same bit of wilderness where his twin brother went missing a year ago. As the bodies are exhumed, Paul travels to Alaska to get closure and put his grief to rest. But the mystery is only beginning. What Paul finds are superstitious locals who talk of the devil stealing souls, and a line of wooden crosses to keep what s in the woods from coming out. He finds no closure because no one can explain exactly what happened to Danny. And the more he searches for answers, the more he finds himself becoming part of the mystery. . . Praise for Little Girls Best horror novel of the year. Hunter Shea Much more than a haunted house story. Cemetery Dance Takes well-known tropes and completely turns them around. IHeartReading"

Pickpick

After reading Rosemary‘s Baby I have been in a horror mood. Bone White is a great winter read. I wish I had read it a couple of months earlier to enhance the atmosphere a little. I‘m not going to go into too much detail about this one because it‘s better if you go in not expecting anything. But overall I had a good time with it.

I recently discovered this author with the incredible 'Come With Me' and this one is just as good, I loved every page.

It's like a supernatural whodunit, page-turning read that gets more and more eerie as the story progresses.

The rest of his books are most certainly on my to-read list.

There is something about horror books set in desolate, dark, winter settings that make them so much scarier. Bone White takes place in a tiny, middle of nowhere, creepy town in Alaska named Dread's Hand. Malfi does a great job of writing a mystery with some downright scary elements. A great read for this time of year! 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Starting this very wintry sounding book today, even though its nearly 70 degrees on the east coast right now! ☀️☀️

The isolation of Alaska. Possible interactions with the devil. Super creepy kids. A confessed serial killer. This book had so many things so right. I would have liked more kinetic immediacy to the writing - but I‘m coming off a Paul Tremblay high. Still a very good story and I bet it‘d make an even better film.

ephemeralwaltz Thank you for doing this!! I'll have to start researching picks. If there are 2 or 3 that people really want to read from this list I can use one as my pick :) 6y

Mehso-so

An interesting story, but very little horror to be found. There‘s a burst right at the end of the book, but that‘s pretty much it. I don‘t think the premise was mined nearly enough—he could have done so much more and made this a truly terrifying story . . . but he didn‘t.

The tension was high, the pages kept turning, need to know!
All about the journey definitely not the destination.
