Box 1/2 of my Times Colonist Book Sale haul 📚❤️🐉See any favourites? Where should I start?
I just have to listen to the Cinnamon Bun book and I will have devoured this series. This one is pretty spicy 🌶️ and sweet. Also enjoyed a new cozy historical mystery series set in a cute English village during WWII . Audiobooks seem so much easier as life gets so busy when the weather is nice.
This is a really fun new audiobook series I‘ve discovered. A down on her luck English actress uses her new talent as a medium to solve a crime. So funny and the author does a tremendous job of the narration. I‘ve got book 3 & 4 on hold on Libby.
The second novel in the Midsolar Murders series finds us back on the space station Eternity waiting for another shuttle from Earth bringing potential murder victims/ perpetrators. Mallory is a murder magnet - people die around her and she solves their murders -so get ready for a crazy , chaotic murder mystery. If you have read the first book you‘ll be happy to find all your favourite aliens are back. I couldn‘t put my ebook down - . 👍👍 🚀
I‘m still months away on my library hold on the Libby app but thanks to Fast Reads - I snagged an e-copy - dropped all my other books and devoured this one. There‘s lots going on in this novel - there‘s time travel of course- there‘s rumination on immigration - the tragedy in Cambodia under Pol Pot - civil servants - the Franklin Expedition - a hot romance . Two thumbs up
This wasn‘t just a mystery about a violin 🎻 heist it was a thoughtful exploration of the life of a talented young musician who has to overcome prejudice and poverty. I‘m not a classical music fan but this author has such beautiful descriptions of the violinist‘s feelings while playing. A great choice for Black History Month
Just finished this audiobook about one year in the life of an LA family of Jewish Mexican descent. There‘s lots of drama etc. But what I found so interesting was the backdrop of the drought and the fires and the Santa Ana winds. Touched a nerve after the terrible fires in January. A Reese‘s Book Club selection
I‘m in a cozy mystery mood. A young Cuban American mother reluctantly moves to the affluent Miami suburbs to be closer to her in laws. And you guessed it - gets tangled in a murder investigation. What I enjoyed was the peak into Cuban American culture and food.
A surprisingly enjoyable thriller/mystery set in a remote resort on the California coast. A high school teacher finds her solo trip on what would have been her 20th wedding anniversary interrupted by murder and disaster. A familiar story but with more depth of character than usual.
This is an enjoyable audiobook but it is true to formula- smart young woman meets deadly psychopath escapes with her life but others usually die - and she runs away and hides in a small town etc… The Witness is still my favourite but I enjoyed Identity. I also listened to Mind Games but the psychic gift element just didn‘t ring true. I snuck in a re-listen of All Systems Red so a busy three weeks. Summer listening 🙌🍧🥂
Finished this cozy mystery set in Thailand, nurse ethicist has a nose for mysteries and along with her boyfriend Detective Wiriya Molokai is looking into disappearing tourists. I loved the setting and the frequent references to Thai food. I got such a craving for coconut cake. I enjoyed the mystery and the characters but I‘m uncomfortable with the fact that the author is American not Thai. 👍❤️ 🐉
Listened to the audiobook on Libby. It was okay. The hook was the private investigators all have surnames associated with fictional characters. This book seemed more like short stories knit together. It was also quite complicated to listen to. I really wanted to love it but it‘s a so-so 💚🐉
I read this book during my lunch breaks at work. This book provides a look back at the past glory of the New York Times food critic. A job so important Ruth Reichl had to invent new persona to allow anonymous restaurant visits. Her chapter on the restaurant at the Twin Towers was poignant knowing what would happen a few years into the future. I really enjoyed this one and there‘s lots of recipes too. 👍👍🐉
Work is so stressful that I‘m listening to all the David Baldacci thrillers I can borrow from my library‘s Libby collection. They‘re a good escape- they keep my attention but don‘t require too much thought. I like the non stop action and relatively happy endings 💚🐉
My haul from the Raise A Reader book sale - it‘s on again tomorrow. Anyone see a favourite book? 📚 where should I start? ❤️📚🐉
This is a very sweet novel set in a small New England town. It‘s kind of a Mayberry setting, people are so community minded and so friendly. Nora runs the diner she inherited from her parents and at 42 is unsurprisingly unhappy with her life. Circumstances change when she and her prodigal sister inherit a substantial property from a relative stranger. But I love this kind of palate cleanser and enjoyed this gentle romance. A sweet escape 👍👍 🐉
A quick fun read featuring a mysterious dead uncle , a surprising legacy, spy cats 🐈⬛ and a volcano 🌋 lair. All you could ever want in a Scalzi story ( I think this is my third or fourth of his novels), escapism with a bit of a message . 👍💚🐉 ( it‘s tulip 🌷 season so took myself out for a steak and Bellini)
This latest entry in the Finlay Donovan cozy mystery series is so fun full of non stop hi-jinks. I‘m not sure I have all the goings on straight. It starts off right where the last book ended. Finlay and Vero are off to Atlantic City ostensibly for a girls weekend. Some how everyone but Finlay‘s dad ends up there. Kevin Bacon makes an appearance sort of. Fast paced with a touch of romance- enjoyable escapism 👍👍💚🐉
@dabbe #ThreeListThursday #TLT I love the golden age of movies 🎥 and my favourite actresses are 1. Katherine Hepburn - Philadelphia Story ( with Carey Grant is a favourite). 2. Bette Davis - All About Eve or Dark Victory are my faves 3. Colette Colbert - It Happened One Night is my fave ( I love the part at the end when the horn blows and you know the Wall of Jericho is tumbling down
Just finished listening to this 2 hour audiobook on Libby . It‘s a prequel to the Finley Donovan cozy mystery series. It‘s fun to meet Vero before she became the nanny for Finley‘s kids. It was maybe a bit too short and not as funny as the longer books. Still enjoyed it but would only recommend it to fans of the series.
Spent the last couple of weeks re-listening to this spicy 🌶️ historical romance. My favourite in the series because I have a crush on Cam ( Amelia is a lucky lady) 💚 🐉
My hold came in and I dropped all the other books I was reading and gobbled this one up. A delicious m/m romance full of all the feels and spice 🌶️. I‘m probably the only Canadian who doesn‘t watch hockey at all but I still enjoyed this sweet romance between the star player and the newbie goalie. It‘s fun that it‘s set in Calgary because I visit there every year. 👍👍💚🐉
This was my lunch read at work for the last few months. I only get to read for about 15-20 minutes. This book is one of those books within a book novels and is unashamedly influenced by the novel Rebecca. In fact that‘s a big plot point. I didn‘t really like the main character and it really wasn‘t that much of a thriller. It was okay as a lunch read but I wouldn‘t recommend it to friends. So-so at best
I‘m a sucker for a paranormal vampire/ werewolf themed romantsy - I especially like snarky don‘t fit in with the crowd vampires forced to marry hunky Alpha wolves 🐺. I lucked out and got to read the Fastread ebook on Libby. I tore through it. There‘s mixed feelings and there‘s a hefty dose of spice. 👍👍🔥🐉
Libby is great for audiobooks- my hold came in and I was so happy to listen to this sweet historical romance. A gentle love story between two “outsiders” -an aristocratic Lady who can not walk and a son of aristocracy who is illegitimate. A tender book - not a lot of action etc … but a good escape from a stressful week ❤️ 🐉
Happy Valentine‘s Day 💝 - I‘ve been reading a few romantsy e-books - some spice and a guaranteed happy ending 😻🐉❤️
A friend just told me about Audible Plus so I‘m binge listening to all The Murderbot Diary novellas available. I forgot how snarky and funny Murderbot is 🤖❤️🐉. A couple weekends ago The Stanley Cup was on display in the Inner Harbour so had to get a picture 🥅 🏒
Finally got to listen to this audiobook on Libby. Only a month after Christmas 😹. This was a funny mystery set in the world of amateur theatre- things go hilariously awry during the Christmas Pantomime- a fun epistolary story 👍❤️🐉
Hi everyone on Litsy. I took a 3 month break from social media- but I did do a lot of listening to audiobooks- These are the latest 6. Most of them were re listens. My favourite was the new to me Iron Flame the second book in my new favourite series. There‘s lots of action as the students get into their second year of training at the military college. What‘s not to love there‘s dragons and quite a bit of heat. Can‘t wait for the next book 🐉
I borrowed the audiobook from Libby and thoroughly enjoyed it. Nora Roberts has a successful formula- talented male or female overcomes terrible childhood trauma , gets entangled with some villain, must change their identity, meets love of life , confesses all , mess cleaned up - HEA achieved: I am so there for it. One quibble , the fellow who reads the audiobook is not skilled at differentiating female voices . 👍👍🐉
The audiobooks in the series are so good - lots of different accents etc … really adds to the experience. The gang is assembled and ready to solve another murder. But this story has some serious and emotional scenes as well as the usual humour . So have your Kleenex handy and join the Thursday Murder Club 👍👍💚🐉
I lucked out and managed to get this popular ebook on a 7 day Fast Read from Libby. So dropped everything other than work. An historical heist novel set in 1905 London - a disgruntled housekeeper plans to steal the contents of a mansion during a ball. I am not sure I liked any of the characters in this one. But I did like all the historical tidbits and the Upstairs/Downstairs vibe. 👍👍
It‘s been a busy couple of weeks but I did manage to read a few books. This is the third instalment in a fun mystery series set in a fictional country house owned by Agatha Christie. Our sleuth 🕵️♂️ is the housekeeper. An enjoyable historical mystery. 👍👍 🐉 - hi from Miss Cali 😻
This is another of Reese Witherspoon ‘s book club picks - bought it at the annual Raise/A-Reader Booksale . An older woman wins a cruise with her estranged adult children. Of course everyone is unhappy, angst , secrets , alcoholism, depression etc . Pretty much all the family drama in a so-so package. I have a few days off so Breakfast at Starbucks, lunch at the Dutch Bakery and supper from the Italian Market Deli
So I‘m reading this ebook on Libby , I just started it and the reader is being introduced to the “reality “ of the Instagram Influencer. So the Instagram Mom is organizing a gigantic event- her daughter Coco‘s fourth birthday 🎂- meanwhile I‘m taking a break scrolling through Instagram - and there‘s a post about a real life Coco‘s fourth birthday party. Coincidence? Or is Coco a more common name than I thought?
Just tore through this thriller- it‘s got all kinds of trashy characters who belong to a very exclusive club with “Home” sites in major cities. The Club is opening a new venue on it‘s own island - the elite are going to party and the desperate are going to react. I couldn‘t put it down - I had to know what happened 👍👍💚🐉
I quite enjoyed this second book in the series- our three amateur detectives are investigating a locked room mystery in the English town of Marlow. I figured out the mystery pretty early on but still wanted to read on. This was a 7 day fast read so I had to really focus on it. I would say this is between a pick and a so-so 💚🐉
Enjoyed the audiobook of Knock Out much more than I expected. I didn‘t really like the first book in the series. This is the third - I think I missed the second. But I absolutely love the reader so I had to immediately listen to another audiobook that she reads. Both books are a lower pick for story line etc …💚🐉
Pamela Anderson is really good at narrating her memoir - I found her surprisingly relatable- I grew up in small town British Columbia -and I remember all the excitement of her rise to fame - being picked out at the football game etc … she seems to have done a lot of work /reading/thought to reach a really good space. Her boys seem grounded and supportive. Very glad I spent the time listening to her story 💚🐉
Just finished listening to this audio book- I really enjoy narrator Susan Duerden ‘s audio performances. She really adds to my enjoyment . This is the second installment in @EloisaJames new series Would-Be Wallflowers. Not a lot happens in the book but it is a nice romance with an interesting note at the end about the author‘s middle school experience. I do love a ducal romance 💚🐉
I read this book slowly over many lunch breaks at work. A Reese‘s Book Club pick. It‘s a pretty familiar story one sister moves to the big city the other stays in the small town. Big city returns , rivalries and immature behaviour occur egged on by the producer of a reality show. I quite liked it - in between a pick and a so-so - 👍💚🐉
Basically spent my entire Saturday reading this book - couldn‘t put it down. A librarian takes part in a real life beta test of a private/government computer program called Fusion that invades privacy and stalks “ wrong doers”. What could go wrong? Lots of course. The author is a screen writer so it‘s fast paced and entertaining 👍👍💚🐉
I haven‘t been on Litsy very much this summer. I have been very busy reading some very naughty paranormal romances- so hot - so baaad 🔥🔥🔥 so twisted.
Just finished this e-book on the Libby app. A satisfying mystery set in Oxford University for the murder and 10 years on in Edinburgh. I‘m pleased that I guessed the murderer. The characters were more likeable than other Ruth Ware books. 👍👍💚🐉
Just finished this cozy mystery yesterday- Margery and Clementine are in their early sixties working in the kitchen at the local high school . Nothing much has happened in the last twenty years until their boss ends up dead in suspicious circumstances. And the Di nner Lady Detectives 🕵️♂️ have their first case. I really wanted to enjoy this a bit more. It was pretty good but not great. I would read future books in the series 🐉💚
I lucked into a 7 day quick read e-library loan for this very popular fantasy novel. Let‘s just say it‘s Hunger Games with dragons 🐉 and because it‘s College age students there‘s some heat 🔥. Checks all my favourite tropes - an excellent beginning to I hope a very enjoyable series. 👍👍💚🐉
Cam Rohan is my favourite beta male in historical romance- he‘s really so good with Amelia and her Hathaway siblings. The first and in my opinion best of the series- a joy to re-listen to this audiobook- the Libby App rocks 💚🐉👍👍
