Bo Dickinson is a seventeen-year-old girl from a bad family, but she is also over-protected, legally blind, Agnes Atwood's best friend--so when Bo calls in the middle of the night, desperate to get out of town, Agnes helps her to steal the Atwoods' car and the two girls go on the run, even though Agnes is not sure exactly what they are running from.

I did DNF this, but only because it was lacking something. What that something was I can‘t really explain, because I was rooting for the characters. Bo has a reputation because of her mom who needs taken care of herself, which definitely was not fair. Then Agnes is legally blind with a friend who thinks she‘s a burden and parents who are afraid for her to do anything. I did ready the end to see how it turned out and I was mostly satisfied.

I haven‘t been able to read very much this weekend. My niece got married yesterday, and I was the officiant, MC, and the cake decorator. For my first wedding cake I think I did pretty good! 😊💛

I wasn't a fan of the ending, but I can't resist a road trip book and I loved both Agnes and Bo.

Book 86. It took me a minute to get into this one, but once I did I really enjoyed it. I especially liked the way it was narrated (which I won't spoil). The only part I didn't like was that the characters I thought should end up together didn't. (Random pic - Jay and Millie out for lunch a couple of weeks ago)

laurieluna That beard though! Amazing. That must take some care! 7y

This book was really eye opening and centred around two so different but so interesting girls. They were so different but came together it such a beautiful way.

The further I got in this book, the more I loved it. It captures the feeling of being a trapped small-town misfit perfectly. Both Bo and Agnes had me rooting for them and their friendship. The ending had me feeling all the feels.

For #disabilities, I have to go with Kody. She's legally blind and wrote this book about a teen with her disability. If you follow her on twitter, she's a huge advocate for disabled writers helping non-disabled ones write more authentic characters. She's also a big advocate against cripface, which is the use of non-disabled actors to play disabled people in movies. #photoadaynov16

thegirlwiththelibrarybag Did she write the Duff as well? I didn't know she was blind - I really should learn how to use twitter! 8y
courtney I love her books! She really does have an amazing voice. Even better that she's such a big advocate! I love to note things like that when I'm deciding what to buy at the bookstore 💞 8y
Megabooks @courtney Me too! 8y
Lucylovesreading I'm going to read this as well as recommend it to my mother who is legally blind. Thanks for sharing! 8y

oh, this book is good! I had to move it up my TBR pile after all the VOYA review controversy and I will definitely be putting it on display at the library once I'm done. As a North Carolinian, I love YA books about kids in the south and this is already a really good one.

There was quite a bit of discussion on Twitter regarding Voya Magazine's review of this book. Discussion might be the wrong word. The review pissed off a lot of people and rightfully so. Because it features a bisexual character, the review came with a warning label. As if there's something wrong with it. 🙄 Worse, they followed up with a non-apology. So of course I'm gonna read it and recommend that others read it because ❤️.

saguarosally Cool, I've been looking for books with bisexual characters! 8y
angrylilasian @saguarosally I don't know of many. Do you have others you can recommend? 8y

I loved reading the friendship between these two girls! As someone who grew up being super affectionate with and always telling my friends I loved them, it was refreshing reading about a friendship that felt like the ones I've had.

*3.5 stars*

I'm a big fan of Kody Keplinger, and while this was as easy to read as her previous books, I didn't quite connect with it on the same level. I never felt hugely compelled to pick it up again, unfortunately. Still enjoyable while I was reading though!

4🌟I think this book had more meaning for me growing up in Kentucky & having a disabled mom. Agnes (legally blind) & Bo are stuck in nowhere, KY. Bo's from a bad family. They become friends. Bo's chapters are told during a road trip; Agnes' tell the story of how they became friends. Good buddy book.

This book is set in rural west Kentucky (where I'm from) and this damn near cracked me up! Sorry for the swearing!

Riveted_Reader_Melissa This quote made me laugh, and made me want to pick up this book! 8y
Megabooks @Riveted_Reader_Melissa The fornicating is what got me. It's so rural Kentucky! 8y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Ebooksandcooks I'm not from Kentucky. Born in NC, but grew up in rural PA. What got me is the small town vibe that everybody thinks they know what everyone else is like, but really they have no idea. 8y
