Action-packed and hilarious, this was like Buffy for the 2010s. High school student Genie Lo has to battle Chinese demons and run the college admissions gauntlet. I'm a sucker for a funny book! 😂📘👹#summerreads #yarreads #jenryland #amuletbooks

A diverse YA coming age story -I've read a few this spring and enjoyed them all. This one tackles family, friendship and fitting in. The protagonist is Iranian- American, with a close knit family and eclectic group of friends. #yareads #contemporary #summerrreading

[DELETED] 4272432186 Sounds like a good read. I might just have to add it to my huge growing summer reading list. 📚 7y

Another YA amnesia book? Yep. But I enjoyed this one all the same. The ending was a bit rushed but the rear was really well done. 📚👍🏻

Kasie West is a dependable source of cute PG rated YA contemporaries. This book is no exception. It looks at a girl whose entire life changes - for both the + and the - -- when she wins the lottery. I wished there had been more of a romantic spark between Maddie and her love interest but all in all a good summer read. #summerreads #summerromance #yalit

Astoria_Malfoy I always love her books. They make for nice, happy reads. Planning to see her the 26th. 7y

I wasn't sure about this book at first - another YA amnesia story?! - but in the end I really liked it. It tackles a lot of topics, including the internet and how it both connects us and torments us!
Have you read this? Tell me what you thought. Also loved the National Park setting 🌲🌿🐾🍃

On the plus side Summer Unscripted featured a main character who showed real growth and a nice subplot about friendship. On the minus side, there wasn't a lot of plot besides the boy drama, so this isn't the meatier kind of YA contemporary I prefer.

Weird that there are two July books with the same title and similar covers. On the left hand, women's fiction about a famous food personality who is outed as a fraud. On the right, a YA about a girl trying to make it in LA. I've read one and want to read the other. Have you??

Cute LGBT love story. I wasn't a fan of having four first person POVs in a romance and found the extreme supportiveness of the gay characters ideal but perhaps unrealistic. Not as adorable as Simon and the Homo Sapiens Agenda but charming in its own way.

Enter Plot Here? This book wasn't funny enough to be a black comedy like Perrotta's Election, wasn't serious enough to be an issue book, and didn't commit fully to being meta (as a book written by a character who is writing a book.) Would try this author's future books but this one was a miss for me

Eerily similar to The Nest in premise, setting, and characters. WCBB's Catherine is more ... Basic than TN's Beatrice but I thought WCBB was better written and had some nice suspense (think a yuppie Patricia Highsmith novel.) Warning: whiny rich characters of both books may drive readers up a wall

A sweet going back into the closet story about a girl who agrees to tone her "out and proud" self down when she moves to a conservative Southern town. It's not perfect but has a lot to say about tolerance, religion and family.

If, like me, you read a lot of chick lit back in the day, you may find this story of a high school intern at a NYC fashion magazine a bit BTDT. If you loved The Devil Wears Prada and How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days, you might want to give this YA version a trial subscription.

Love this cover but found the inside (think a futuristic Gossip Girl) underwhelming. A huge cast of teenagers in love with people who are, of course, in love with someone else. Saw that this Alloy title has been optioned for TV - maybe it will make a better show. Except there's no Chuck or Blair 😭

LivinginaLibrary Too bad it was underwhelming. The cover is so eye catching. 8y

I'm a bit over YA amnesia books but this one uses the plot device cleverly and effectively. Jill wakes up in a hospital with no memory of the accident that landed her there. Though her memory's shaky, the book includes blog posts and police interviews that slowly fill in details. Fun summer read!

This pre-apocalyptic fish-out-of water story definitely had its charms. Loved the protagonist, though the love interest was a bit too MPDG for my taste. Overall a fun read if you don't mind a story with quirk.

I'm a thriller fan but am seriously underwhelmed with most YA thrillers. This second installment of The Fixer series was awesome, veering a bit away from the Olivia Pope-inspired shenanigans of book one and zooming into political thriller category. Highly recommend!

Think John Green (witty nerd banter) meets Shakespeare (this is a Much Ado retelling) meets Rajnbow Rowell (fandom). For me this took a bit of time to get going (and YA contemporary books should NOT be 450 pages) but enjoyed the retelling choices and can't resist a good hate-to-love romance

I love psychological thrillers and thought this was a fun summer read. It had a fantastic claustrophobic setting (a small luxury yacht cruising the North Sea) a slightly off-balance heroine who sees a murder and then can't convince her fellow passengers to take her seriously.

While this book isn't for readers who crave a strong plot, I liked the drifty feel and LA setting. Anna is young for a YA protagonist and her takeaway of the Manson girls as regular girls who made bad choices is questionable. Overall a book I enjoyed.
