Get ready to run . . . an edge-of-your-seat thriller with bite from international bestselling author Linwood Barclay, in his first novel for 9-12 year olds. Chipper is a very special dog. As part of a top-secret, multi-million dollar experiment to create the ultimate canine spy technology, Chipper's whole life has been spent within the walls of a secret organization known only as The Institute. Chipper is supposed to be more machine than mutt, but something's wrong and The Institute knows it. He's about to be terminated. Across the state, twelve-year-old orphan Jeff Conway is working all hours at his aunt Flo's lakeside cabin business. He misses his parents, his old life, and the dog he had to leave behind. When Chipper escapes and Jeff finds himself part of the chase, The Institute's most ruthless agent is hot on their tail, and he wants Chipper dead . . . at any cost. Danger, secrets and thrilling suspense collide in Linwood Barclay's action-packed first novel for children.

I really enjoyed this. It‘s YA, so not nearly as complex as Barclay‘s other novels, but I thought it was still a good thriller. As YA, it‘s a quick read. The point of view alternated, mostly between Chipper and Jeff, but I think there was an occasional other POV thrown in every so often. Unfortunately, there wasn‘t really an end to the book, as it left off on a cliffhanger. I will, of course, pick up the sequel

Two nights ago, I didn't win the lit award I was up for (no biggie), but I did get some high praise about my book from someone in a high place (stay tuned to see where that goes.) Anyway, I was walking around downtown Toronto after the gala (wanted to whine into some wine), and found a bar called Library (Kismet! Door handle pictured.) Among other crime authors, I met Linwood Barclay (super nice guy) who won for the MG book tagged.

SandyW Sorry you didn't win. 😞 But b high praise. 🙌 6y

Cybernetically enhanced dog teams up with resourceful 'tweens to evade evil Institute who have dangerous agendas and a lot to lose if their secrets get out. Exciting if somewhat predictable. #currentlyreading #preview #rso

Three action-packed, survival stories for middle years' readers. One from the Canada 🇨🇦 , one the U.K. 🇬🇧, and from Australia 🇦🇺. Need to get my head around them today. #reading #preview #augustreleases #rso
