pickThis is all over the place but giving it a pick anyway. I do think a couple of these are interesting from a historical standpoint. There is a Hamlet story I found interesting and weirdly funny. Dry humor might be my jam. A little bit.

so-soIf I can‘t get into the rhythm of an author‘s dialogue, it‘s hard for me to enjoy the book. These stories started strong, and I liked 2 of 3 of the East stories set in India/Pakistan, but when he moved to England in the West section, I totally lost his rhythm. But the Star Trek story in the East/West (final) section was cool if super weird. I think it referenced 1990s political situations I‘m not familiar with. #AuthorAMonth

so-soI enjoyed this largely bc of the audiobook narrator bringing the jaunty, punchy prose of these short stories to life. But I‘d be lying if I said I completely understood the *point* of most of these shorts. 🤷🏻♀️🫣 I do like Rushdie‘s style though, this was the first of his I‘ve ever read. I‘m starting The Golden House now. #AuthorAMonth
Today‘s #libraryhaul is random! I‘ve been wanting to read Hannah Pick-Goslar‘s book for ages, and picked up the McMahon bio on a whim.
The Rushdie was an #AuthorAMonth decision after a week of struggling to pick Midnight‘s Children or The Satanic Verses as my first of his work. Instead, I‘m going with short stories!
so-soI am intrigued by Salman Rushdie. This collection of short stories was disappointing. Yet, I know that trying to drive and listen at the same time distracted from my understanding. One of the stories involved a rickshaw driver who married a widow with children. Things did not work out well for him.
From now on, I plan to choose books that do not require all my attention like mysteries and light romance for my car rides

I have chosen the #Audies2017 Short Stories Collection category to judge for Armchair Audies a couple of times. I've enjoyed it because there's so much variety. I also like short stories in audio for times when my concentration isn't great. I can focus for 20 minutes and stop for a while. Here are this year's finalists.
so-soThis is my first attempt on Rushdie and it was a bit hard to understand his cryptic writings especially the West stories. My favorite by far is The Prophet's Hair due to its similarity to our very own situation nowadays.
Definitely will read his other works soon 🤓
Reading this. Last read it in 1994, still giddy with post-grad "I can read whatever I want!" delight. I read it now, and wonder how I understood it then. Did I then? Do I now? Either way the Ruby Slippers story is killer. Book has been on my shelf so long the spine is turning white. ❤️
