A Ming dragon statue. An ancient sword. What treasure is worth killing for? Set in 1920s Australia, this is a story of murder, mystery, love and secrets. As a cloud of fear and apprehension hovers over Thornton Park, 21-year-old Alexandra Thornton peels away the layers of an eighty-year-old mystery. She soon discovers her life is in danger.

This was a really interesting story. I loved learning about those times in Australia. The plot was steady and then suddenly very dramatic. I loved that Alexandra is a strong lead and her relationship with Bendict was very cute. The ending was perfect and tied the story to a fitting close. An interesting mystery though I figured some of it out. Still well written and fitting with the times. #VoraciousReaders 4*

It didn‘t matter that just over twenty-fours hours ago she hadn‘t even looked at him with a lover‘s eyes.
Time meant nothing.
She loved him in an instant.
She would love him forever.

Part agatha Christie, part romance, part period-piece.
This is a gem of a find from an Australian indie author, which wonderfully recreates the roaring 1920's, and all the elegance and decadence you would expect from that age. With a classic murder at a garden party worthy of miss marple, mysterious antique dragon statues and lots of twists, I really enjoyed this

Alexandra is a young woman to be reckoned with, unfolding the mystery of her great-grandfather's travels and articfacts from the Orient. Ellen Read has a wonderful ability of totally submerging you into the surroundings and era. The evocative 1920s is surberbly sublime at the end of Ellen's pen - with a lavish backdrop, gorgeous references to the time a simmering romance,a stunning leading man, then she hits you with murder, intrigue, mystery.

ellenreadauthor I'm so pleased you enjoyed my book 🌹💙 7y
