This novel was published in 2012. It's weird and prescient to read this sentence now, after the Notre Dame did indeed burn down. Of course, the very plot of the book became somewhat prescient due to Colin Kaepernick.

I love Jacob's short stories and finally read a novel of his! I enjoyed this book very much however the ending was left wide open and disappointing. The story is about a man who refused to stand up at a baseball game and got in trouble with the law because of it. From there his life just spiraled downward to where he was naked in NY covered with poo (don't ask!). I needed more answers for the ending. 3 stars.
Thanks to LibraryThing for this fun book. The MC refuses to stand as God Bless America is sung during the 7th inning stretch of a baseball game. His image is captured on a screen at the stadium and it proceeds to become a viral sensation. The response to his action is swift and true to life. The second half of the book goes off the rails a bit, but I enjoyed the humor and the questions the author asks you to consider.
I really liked this and will be trying to find more of Appel's books.
This is an engrossing, thought-provoking book. I thought it was excellent and highly recommend you read this.
Id like to thank Jacob M. Appel and LibraryThing for sending this wonderful book

I just received this, and am thrilled! Briefing through, it looks fantastic.....a man takes the son of his wife's sister to a baseball game. He decided to not stand for the National Anthem. He didn't realize he was being televised.
I love Appels storytelling, plot and pace.
