The Foundling

Why it is imperative that I determine whether or not I like Heyer‘s writing RIGHT NOW.
I got them all free from the Buy Nothing group, but I can‘t have them taking up valuable book space if I‘m not going to read them.
They are amusing 1970´s paperbacks, though. The covers! ?

BarbaraJean 😍 I have heard lavish praise for Heyer! I‘ve read one of her mysteries and am in the middle of a second—thoroughly enjoyable. I hope you enjoy her writing, or at least that you can make a quick determination one way or the other! 7mo

willaful Oh, I had a lot of those editions! Used to furiously search them out in used bookstores, back before the Internet. 7mo

LeahBergen It looks like you have a good range of her stuff. I see some Regencies, some Georgians, a straight history, and one of her mysteries. 👍 7mo

Aimeesue Excellent! Thanks for your expert opinion! So much easier to sort through her 6 billion books when you have folks around you who know what‘s what! I also picked up the Jennifer Kloester The Novels of GH, sand hopefully that will help. 6mo

willaful @Aimeesue You know what's funny? I used to be bugged by the incredibly inaccurate blurbs for her books, but then when I bought replacement editions in 90s, I thought the accurate blurbs were just so boring. 😂 6mo

Oh, I find it hard to rate this book! It started slow, and it has two absolutely annoying side characters. Maybe I should have started with another Heyer with a female main character. I was considering bailing when I feared dumb-as-bread (as we Germans say) Belinda might be the love interest. It got better, and yes, it was entertaining. A pick with lots of flaws.

julesG Dumb-as-bread is one of my favourites. Only topped by: He/she has an IQ of 7, toast has 8. 6y

The Foundling | Georgette Heyer

I'm still here, I've just been quiet because life is pretty exhausting right now and I cannot find the time to read. Today I played with my Big Band at a church festival and between sets I browsed the used books stall and bought this. I never read anything by Heyer before, is it any good? I have seen her books often recommended.

Moray_Reads I haven't read this one but I've found all her others to be enormous fun. Downright silly in many cases but wholly enjoyable 6y

shanaqui Definitely romance as well, but a lot of humour, some of it quite wry. My wife always knows I'm reading Heyer from the number of giggles. 6y

A Heyer written from the male's perspective? There Foundling follows the adventures of the young Duke of Sale who is tired of being cosseted and escorted and protected at every turn and wants to be Mr Dash of No Where In Particular. While making his escape from his well meaning entourage he finds himself on an adventure with a runaway a Foundling and a rouge. What follows is a romp unlike any other Heyer.
