I think the author and I had opposite definitions of happiness and joy. This was just ok but worth the very short read for these two lovely graphics.

Book 77/90 3/1/19

This little book explains more about happiness than some huge diatribes. I‘m not happy because our definition of happy isn‘t very good. Meaning. Joy. Fascination. Maybe I am just built differently, but I am not the only one.

?????
"Are you happy?"
That's a tricky question..
and the only two answers available can't be ?YES, I'm happy or ?NO, I'm unhappy.
With 40 pages Matthew Inman inspired me (and conforted me): there are so many things in this world that can't make you happy, but they can make you feel YOU

5⭐️ I was expecting a lot of sass and brashness. Instead I got an indepth look at happy. It‘s one guy explaining why he is not “happy”. It about how he sees the meaning of happy. He may not be happy, but he is interested, engaged, and sometimes frustrated. I loved everything about this, including the illustrations. He masterfully uses color to get his point across in illustrations that are noticeable as Oatmeal right away.

Spiderfelt I agree with his description of mental states. I'm not happy very often, but I have given up on trying to fit that narrow wedge of the emotional spectrum. 7y
LibrarianRyan @Spiderfelt I completely agree. His thought process blew me away when I read this. So much better than what I was expecting. 7y

One of my favorite Oatmeal comics in convenient book form. (You can read it on the website.) It examines our culture‘s obsession with happiness over satisfaction and worthwhile work. Uplifting and satisfying.
[I received an e-galley of this title through Netgalley.]

Decided I wanted to switch it up a bit & read something lighter than Sing, Unburied, Sing. (Don't get me wrong, I'm liking it. Just needed to take a break.)

Do you ever feel like the concept of being happy is overrated? According to The Oatmeal it's not so much about being happy as it is being interested & finding purpose in what you do. I tend to straddle the fence on this one. Finding purpose and interest = happy in my book.

Zelma I can definitely see that argument. I think happiness is directly tied to purpose; without a goal or purpose, I am unhappy, so that is part of what I constantly work toward. 7y
Zelma Also, a book called Lord of the Squid Hobbit Thrones sounds like the perfect readalong for Litsy! 😂 7y
monkeygirlsmama @Zelma It really does! I couldn't help but share those two screen shots. Hehehe 7y
