Prinzessin Insomnia & der alptraumfarbene Nachtmahr
Prinzessin Insomnia & der alptraumfarbene Nachtmahr: Roman | Walter Moers
7 posts | 4 read | 6 to read

Pickpick

I don‘t know why the other review have been this bad. I didn‘t expect this novel to be a Zamonien one and I read the repetitions and lists of words as an expression of the sleeplessness of Princess Insomnia. I mean what what else would you do if you couldn‘t sleep for 18 nights in a row? Maybe I liked because I have a liking for languages and their varieties. The only thing the came a little bit abrupt was the ending.

I always like the Walter Moers books because hhey are always beautifully illustrated. The paintings in this one are even coloured, normally the drawings are only black and white.

As pretty as this book is, as self-fulfilling is its title. I was close to suffering narcoleptic episodes when I read this repetitive, pretentious crap that calls itself a novel. I feel that Moers has deteriorated immensely ever since publishing his famous books like Bluebear or City of Dreaming Books. Such a pity!

Amandajoy Well this bums me out! But thanks for the honest review. 7y
scripturient @Amandajoy Yes, I feel a bit bad about my very blunt review but I was just so mad that the book sucked so much! ☺️ 7y

GatheringBooks a new moers novel! has it been translated to english yet? 7y
Heideschrampf @scripturient i'm glad i'm not the only one! I was mad, too! It did feel like a personal letdown somehow since his good novels felt so full of love and detail... 7y
Heideschrampf @Sarah83 yupp, this is pure money making 😠 7y

Took my car in this morning to be serviced and am now killing four hours in the city. Starting off with a cuppa Earl Grey and the new Walter Moers book.

Plainly bad writing. A repetitive repetition of luke warm leftover ideas... seriously: you have no idea HOW MANY REPETITIONS there can be in one sequel... and enumerations... and similies... and chains of synonyms... and repetitions... (did i mention repetitions?) Keep off!

Maike Oh no 😔 7y
julesG Phew! Thanks to your review, I will not buy this book. 7y
scripturient Borrowed this from the library yesterday. 😳 7y

I want it to be over... it turns out a long loooooong rambling repetitive rip-off after all... way to long and plotless. And rather uninspired (compared to his previous work, if maybe not to other authors) while trying too hard and yet not hard enough... probably works better as a comic? Andreas Fröhlich aka Bob Andrews does a great job though. #dissappointingsequels

Sarah83 Das tut mir so leid 🤔 7y

Heideschrampf @Sarah83 wirklich schade drum... 7y
Sarah83 Meinst du er hatte keine Ideen mehr? 7y
Heideschrampf @Sarah83 ja, oder schlimmer noch: keine lust. Wer weiss wozu ihn der verlag gezwungen hat... die 13 1/2 sequels des verfluchten comiczeichners? 7y
Sarah83 Hört sich fast so an. 😧☹️ 7y

Nothing better than a surrealistic fairy tale for waking up monday morning, the only student at uni... English speaking littens: have you heard of ZAMONIA, captain blue bears world? It's like dr suess, but waaaay longer, replacing the rhymes with alliterations and just as silly

DivaDiane No, I have not! And I lived in Germany for many, many years until recently! 7y
Kathrin I hovered over this book yesterday, but didn't end up buying because I was soooo disappointed by 7y
Heideschrampf @DivaDiane then you were missing out! The planet was invented for the infamous kids hero "käpt'n blaubär" (aka captain blue bear, wo is a blue bear) and his "autobiography". This is part eight playing on this strange world now. I highly recommend the german audiobook read by the late dirk bach. 7y

Heideschrampf @Kathrin yes, i didn't much like that one either. But since this came part of my audible subscription for a tenner i was willing to give it a chance. Not far in yet, but so far so good. I've never READ any of them though, the audio always appealed much more to me (edited) 7y
DivaDiane Oh that sounds great! We love audiobooks here! 7y
Heideschrampf @DivaDiane great! Let me know how you like it if you try it :) 7y
Kathrin @Heideschrampf I agree, the audio books are the way to go for sure! 7y
