Christmas at the Vinyl Cafe
Christmas at the Vinyl Cafe | Stuart McLean
22 posts | 7 read | 5 to read
Come share Christmas with your friends at the Vinyl Cafe Christmas has always been a special time at the Vinyl Cafe. For two decades, Stuart McLean travelled across the country every December with The Vinyl Cafe Christmas tour, bringing the gift of laughter and light during the darkest days of the year. The hilarious world of Dave and Morley was even more realmore vibrantduring the holidays. For many, the Vinyl Cafe Christmas stories became beloved family traditions. Now, for the first time, they have been brought together in this special collectionincluding the classic "Dave Cooks the Turkey," as well as five new, never before published Christmas stories. From mishaps with the Turlingtons and the tale of a young Dave's first holiday disaster to the surprising "Christmas Ferret" and the touching sign off in "The Christmas Card," these wonderful new stories will delight for years to come. Brimming with charm and humour (often at Dave's expense), these twelve stories entertain on every page, reminding us what the holidays are all about.

I‘m starting this one (and holding it in front of the chair holding the mound of laundry that needs folding) because I think short, funny, seasonal stories are a better use of my time right now. 🧑‍🎄

LeahBergen You are absolutely correct. 😆 4mo

McLean has the power to make you appreciate the little things in life, all while making you laugh, cry, and grin ear to ear, while reading/listening. Some stories, he had recorded performances, so I put those on to hear his cadence and style. He is always a joy to me.

The next Christmas read! I love and miss McLean so much. His stories bring unending joy. Also my weird desk decor. Yes, I have a brick named Brickard. It‘s a thing. 🤣

My #christmasreading pile (probably won‘t get through most of it). Went a little crazy with the Christmas holds this year. #teamreadnosereindeer #wintergames2020 #readnosereindeer

Day 8 of #bookadventcalendar Another one I found the other day in the holiday section at the bookstore as if I didn‘t already have enough festive books. I have no idea what to expect of this one but I‘m intrigued. @LeahBergen

LeahBergen Stuart McLean is a bit of a Canadian institution. I‘ve listened to many of his Christmas stories over the years on CBC Radio (it‘s like your NPR). ❤️ 4y

The last Christmas story Stuart McLean wrote. It was for the 2016 tour that was cut short due to him needing to start cancer treatment. The show I was supposed to see was cancelled so I didn‘t get to see this live. The last show Stuart ever performed was released this week, it was both hard and wonderful to hear. And now I read this last story with his beautiful voice in my head.

Cozied up with the pup and a story about Tommy‘s parents coming for Christmas dinner is the ideal way to segue into this last evening before Christmas festivities begin tomorrow

Another story with the Turlingtons! Dave has such wonderful intentions, even if the execution doesn‘t go so well all the time.

Loving tonight‘s story - perfect accompaniment for while I wait for the last of the gingerbread to come out of the oven.

Ahh, the Christmas Ferret. Is there another animal more Christmas-y than the ferret?

Stories about when Dave was a boy are some of my favourites, they always seem to be a bit poignant.

Yesterday, we had Christmas with my SO‘s family and I was so tuckered out at the end of the day, I fell asleep before I could read my #12daysofVinylCafe story. So tonight I get two - first up, Moorley‘s Christmas Pageant with a chocolate covered Oreo and a generously spiked hot chocolate.

I don‘t know tonight‘s story by the title alone but I am confident that I‘ll be giggling throughout.

This year, Stuart McLean, one of my favourite Canadians ever, passed away. Stuart‘s Vinyl Cafe Christmas tour was one of the highlights of my year. Each year had a new Dave & Morley Christmas story along with some old favourites. They‘ve compiled 12 into this new book & I‘m going to start it tonight, reading one each night until Christmas. Tonight is everyone‘s favourite - Dave Cooks the Turkey. Now where‘s my gravy to drip on the lightbulbs?
