The master of wit and irony Published here alongside their evocative original illustrations, these fairy tales, as Oscar Wilde himself explained, were written "partly for children, and partly for those who have kept the childlike faculties of wonder and joy."

A wonderful, collection of Oscar Wilde's fairy stories to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Duckworth's collection. The illustrations by Phillipe Julliann are truly beautiful. These beloved tales are beautifully represented and remain a joy to read. As can be expected from Wilde, the tales are witty, poignant, sad at times and with a moral background. A multitude cast of characters play out throughout the tales and would appeal to all ages.

(Cont.) This is an excellent gift for fans of Oscar Wilde, books, fairytales and stories. I shall certainly purchase my own copy.

Pickpick

I resisted finishing this collection because it‘s so good; I didn‘t want it to end. In fact, Oscar Wilde manages to slay my heart with everything he writes. These stories are somehow peak Victorian and highly subversive. “The Fisherman and His Soul” is like nothing I‘ve ever read; it completely undoes every fairy tale trope. So yeah, my heart is shattered but somehow stronger for reading these. 🖤💔🌈

catebutler He is such a fun author! I need to get to these fairy tales, it‘s been on my list for a while. P. S. I always love your puzzles Catie! 🧩 (edited) 5y

Finished this collection of Wilde‘s fairy tales in bed with coffee and a large amount of Nutella 👌

I liked most of the stories, but the morals and religious preachings became a bit too much at times. My favourites were The Devoted Friend and The Remarkable Rocket, both of which have a lot of the humour and wit I connect with Wilde

ephemeralwaltz Gorgeous photo!😍 7y
GatheringBooks this is a gorgeous book cover! is this #foliosociety??? 7y
tournevis I'm sorry to hear the book was not to your liking. I chose to read Wilde as being ironic, which made the moral tone hilarious. This edition is Gorgeous!!! 7y

Kalalalatja @GatheringBooks it is, the book is called “The Selfish Giant and Other stories” 👌 7y
Kalalalatja @tournevis I did like it, and this is the second time I read it. I just didn‘t notice how moralizing it was the first time (which was years ago), so it surprised me a bit 😊 7y
Kalalalatja @ephemeralwaltz thank you 😘 7y
GatheringBooks @Kalalalatja i can always recognize a #foliosociety book! 7y
