St. Peter's Fair: The Fourth Chronicle of Brother Cadfael
St. Peter's Fair: The Fourth Chronicle of Brother Cadfael | Ellis Peters
11 posts | 15 read | 2 to read
Stylishly authentic . . . a graceful and informative case for Peters' engaging herb-gardening monk. -- "Kirkus Reviews" The great annual Fair of Saint Peter at Shrewsbury, a high point in the city's calendar, attracts merchants from far and wide to do business. But when an unseemly quarrel breaks out between the local burghers and the monks from the Benedictine monastery as to who shall benefit from the levies the fair provides, a riot ensues. Afterwards a merchant is found dead, and Brother Cadfael is summoned from his peaceful herb garden to test his detective skills once more.

I finished the tagged book while eating my loaded brisket baked potato here in Beeville, Texas. I ate alone, the crowd being in the adjacent bar, which was fine by me. Tomorrow after meeting with a client, I‘ll be back on my way to deep south McAllen, Texas for more meetings.

GingerAntics Check out that AMAZING baked potato!!! 5y
rather_be_reading omg ur food looks Amazing!! 5y
Texreader @GingerAntics @rather_be_reading It was good but a bit light on the potato and very heavy on the loaded. I always thought you couldn‘t have enough cheese etc on a baked potato. Ok, maybe you can. 5y
GingerAntics It does seem to be hard to find the potato in there. lol 5y

I love how this author writes!! She could have as easily said that coincidences are rare indeed but she chose quite a descriptive way to say it!

I am really loving the authors of the two series, Brother Cadfael by Peters and the Peculiar Crimes Unit by Christopher Fowler, I‘m reading right now. They are such masters of their craft!

Brother Cadfael mysteries is one of my favorite series, and St.Peter's Fair is one of my favorite books in the series. Ellis Peters does a terrific job of evoking the medieval life, with not a word amiss to jar the reader out of the setting. Also features female characters that are strong and driven without being anachronistic.
And the warm, humble and wise faith, that leaves me with a vague feeling that everything will be well, one way or other

Hoping to get some crafting done in the morning while listening to one of my favourite stories from Brother Cadfael series and drinking herbal tea with milk and honey.

I really love these series - there is so much gentle warmth in it
