The Kindness Cure
The Kindness Cure: How the Science of Compassion Can Heal Your Heart and Your World | Tara Cousineau
11 posts | 2 read | 3 to read
Its time for a kindness revolution. In The Kindness Cure, psychologist Tara Cousineau draws on cutting-edge research in psychology and neuroscience to show how simple practices of kindnessfor ourselves, for others, and for our worldcan dissolve our feelings of fear and indifference, and open us up to a life of profound happiness. Compassion for ourselves and others is our birthright as humanshardwired into our DNA and essential to our happiness. But in our fast-paced, technical savvy and hyper competitive world, it may come as no surprise that rates of narcissism have risen, while empathy levels have declined. We now find ourselves in a cool to be cruel culture where its easy to feel disillusioned and dejected in our hearts, homes, and communities. So, how can we reverse this malady of meanness and make kindness and compassion an imperative? The Kindness Cure draws on the latest social and scientific research to reveal how the seemingly soft skills of kindness, cooperation, and generosity are fundamental to our survival as a species. In fact, its our prosocial abilities that put us at the head of the line. Blended with moving case studies and clinical anecdotes, Cousineau offers practical ways to rekindle kindness from the inside out. We are wired to care. The very existence of our human species evolved because of an intricate physiology built for empathy, compassion, and cooperation. Yet we have an epidemic of loneliness, indifference, and cruelty, and we see these destructive trends on a daily basis in our families, schools, neighborhoods, and workplaces. This important book teaches effective skills in compassion, mindfulness, and social and emotional learning, and reveals successful social policy initiatives in empathy taking place that inform everything from family life to education to the workplace. Kindness has the exponential power to renew relationships and transform how we think, feel, and behave in the world. Will you be a part of the revolution?

I ended up bailing on this one. It‘s not the book really it‘s more a me thing. I just wasn‘t really engaging and didn‘t find myself eager to read. So back to the library it goes.

The borders opened at midnight last night so we are officially staying out of the public away at home. I raided the library, have my knitting, journal and gardening. Wish us luck.

BookwormAHN Good luck 🍀 2y

Yesterday saw my plans being totally upturned by the universe. We were in our way to errands when we saw this girl nearly get hit by a car. Not happy to leave the situation we spent two hours chasing her round the streets till we could finally grab her. She is reunited with her owners now. We couldn‘t just leave her to be hurt on the roads. No errands done but grateful owner that‘s all that matters

BookDragonNotWorm So happy it all turned out all right! You did a wonderful thing! 2y
Darklunarose @BookDragonNotWorm so are we. Turns out she was dropped at a pet sitter yesterday morning and promptly got out. 2y

curiouserandcurioser @Darkluna So very kind of you to help her! The world always needs kind people💜 2y
Darklunarose @Catsandbooks tell us about it, when she was in the main road in cars she went to the footpath near someone‘s feet and they just looked down at her and did nothing, our driver decided then we were going back. My daughter was seriously ticked by that stage at the lack of care. 2y
Darklunarose @RaeLovesToRead we are too. It could have ended bad. 2y
Darklunarose @curiouserandcurioser ❤️ animals, children and people. Always rend help when you can. 2y

Darklunarose @Lauram I think she was defeated, she just flipped to the ground when we finally found her, utterly out of energy. 2y
Darklunarose @DaveGreen7777 us too Dave. We could never leave an animal in need. 2y

The whole picture is more impressive, but, we came across this huge RAAF plane taking off from Adelaide airport yesterday. My eldest daughter is a plane lover so our driver stopped so she could watch. Sometimes little things make you feel wonderful and seeing her so delighted sure was one yesterday.

My youngest daughters quail, Magnus, passed away last week. We can‘t really get her another quail as they are hard to introduce…..so we are preparing to get her a betta fish.
