Tap on the Window
Tap on the Window | Linwood Barclay
One of the Boston Globe's Best Crime Novels of the Year! One of Suspense Magazine's Best Books of 2013! Since private investigator Cal Weaver's teenage son died in a tragic accident, Cal and his wife have drifted apart. Cal is mired in a grief he can't move past. And maybe his grief has clouded his judgment. Driving home one night, a rain-drenched girl taps on his car window and asks for a ride. He knows a grown man picking up a teenage hitchhiker is foolish--but he lets her in. Cal soon senses that something's not right with the girl or the situation. But it's too late. He's already involved. Drawn into a nightmare of secrets, lies, and cover-ups in his small, upstate New York town, Cal knows that the only thing that can save him is the truth. And he's about to expose the town's secrets one by one--if he lives long enough.

I really liked this. It might not have been as fast paced as some of his others, but in the wrap up, there were a couple of surprises, along with a couple of twists to go along with it. With the occasional short chapter from the POV of the “bad guy”, so to speak, I had a guess as to who it was, but I was wrong. There is a lot more going on in this book – police corruption and a “fight” with the mayor, Cal and his wife trying to heal, and more.

Cal unwisely gives a high school girl a ride late @ night. When she turns out to be missing the next day, he becomes a suspect. With growing concern he tries to find out what happened to her.

In a small town near Niagara Falls, PI Cal Weaver gives a ride to a teenage girl named Claire. This well-paced mystery unfolds from there, with multiple deaths and a tangled web which is gradually revealed. This is my second read from Barclay and I‘m finding him to be a terrific mystery/thriller writer. I couldn‘t put this one down.

Linwood Barclay's books are always the best. They are fast, easy reads with unique characters. A fast-paced plot with twists and turns keep you reading until a surprise ending. Weaver learns it‘s not a good idea to give a teenage girl a ride when she taps on your car window and asks for help. The story spins out of control and just when you think it can't get any worse, it does! I highly recommend this book to those who love mystery thrillers.

I am only n chapter 5, this thriller is so good. The little things that make a reader think, "what about this?" Linwood Barclay gets it. His main character asks the questions we want to ask. Love the way he builds up suspicion. But am I right?
