Of Dogs and Walls
Of Dogs and Walls | Yuko Tsushima
4 posts | 2 read | 4 to read
'Though their house was new, the wall had been there a long time.' In these two stories, which have never before been translated into English, Tsushima shows how memories, dreams and fleeting images describe the borders of our lives. Penguin Modern: fifty new books celebrating the pioneering spirit of the iconic Penguin Modern Classics series, with each one offering a concentrated hit of its contemporary, international flavour. Here are authors ranging from Kathy Acker to James Baldwin, Truman Capote to Stanislaw Lem and George Orwell to Shirley Jackson; essays radical and inspiring; poems moving and disturbing; stories surreal and fabulous; taking us from the deep South to modern Japan, New York's underground scene to the farthest reaches of outer space.

This one will be read later on in the year, as it‘s book number 43 in the set of 50 Penguin Moderns.

Apparently it might not be about dogs *or* walls - ‘Two luminous tender stories showing how childhood memories, dreams and fleeting encounters shape our lives‘

emilyhaldi Oh, this set us so beautiful 😍love that you are reading all!!! Do you have a favorite so far?? 6y
Reviewsbylola What a cool set! 6y
squirrelbrain @Mdargusch @Reviewsbylola - they are lovely aren‘t they? @BarbaraBB - I‘m reading one a week during the year - I‘m up to number 14 so far. @emilyhaldi - I‘ve surprised myself that my favourite so far is a sci-fi one, not my usual thing! There has been one I bailed on; as they are ‘Penguin Moderns‘ some are a bit odd.... 6y
BarbaraBB What a super cool idea, reading one a week! What was that sci-fi one called? 6y
squirrelbrain @BarbaraBB - it was a The Three Electroknights by Stanislaw Lem. I felt that they were more like fables rather than sci-fi. (edited) 6y
emilyhaldi Oohhh!! Interesting! Sci-fi isn‘t my usual either. 1 per week is a great idea!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 6y

Penguin modern Classics- 50 books for about 60€ is coming out. I wish I could by it. As well as the little black classics box, which is 80 books for a similar price. Unfortunately I am trying to reduce my TBR, buying 130 new books wouldn‘t really help wirh that🙈😭

Mitch I bought 2 individual ones on Saturday. Little books and really great themes! Would have loved the box though! 7y
emilyhaldi Want!!! ❤️ 7y
ju.ca.no @Mitch I have a few of the black penguin classics, they are really great books and quick reads and have the perfect handbag size^^ I would love to have the boxes😅 7y
