The Brink of Darkness | Jeff Giles
9 posts | 10 read | 9 to read
"A must-read for fantasy fans everywhere." --Susan Dennard, New York Times bestselling author of the Witchlands series Things have changed for seventeen-year-old Zoe ever since the otherworldly events that brought her together with the mysterious bounty hunter she calls X. In order to save Zoe and her family, X has done the unthinkable--he's given up his freedom and returned to captivity in the Lowlands. X is determined to break the lords' hold on him once and for all, but being stripped of his power pushes him toward a darkness he's never experienced and a pas he's never known. The secrets that surface could be the key to reuniting X and Zoe . . . or they could mean the destruction of everything they have been fighting for. Gripping and full of heart, this epic continuation of Jeff Giles' series--which already has rave reviews from New York Times bestselling authors Kami Garcia, Melissa de la Cruz, and Cassandra Clare, among others--will bring readers right to the edge of everything.

I don‘t want to say too much, but suffice it to say, if you‘re rooting for X and Zoe like I do, you will be supremely happy with Jeff Giles for not screwing with your emotions in this one. I laughed out loud so many times, I got a little weepy at times, and I just felt happy at the end. It‘s not always that I find a book that just makes me happy.

This story picks up where book 1 left off with a little bit of the first story at the begging to remind you what happened.

I truly enjoyed this story because the characters were so great and made me love them. The dynamics between friends and family made me feel@all squishy and happy. I love Ripper and The Russian, every time they showed up on the page I would get excited. So sad to say bye to these characters.

The thing I loved most about this book is much the same as I loved about the first. The banter and dialogue between the characters. The mish mash of personalities, that were so real and vividly crafted, crashing into each others lives and worlds in ways that so completely make no sense but are also so perfect. It was solidly entertaining, humorous, and full on from page one to the end. I'll read Giles' books again. He didn't disappoint!

Had a lot of fun at tonight‘s signing. Jeff Giles is hilarious and I loved the stories he shared. And of course Laini Taylor never disappoints.

The description of the lowlands & the occurrences that took place there was freaky, chilling, & horrifying. I felt for X from beginning to end. I was disappointed in Zoe‘s character. After everything that she learned & endured from book 1 I felt that she should have been more serious but she was annoying at times w/ her angst. She just felt very juvenile 2 me in this story. Full review at www.thegenreminx.com #bookreviewer #TheGenreMinxBookReviews
