The Penheniot Experimental Research Village was a top-secret community with an elaborate defence system to keep away prying eyes. Inside the walls men rushed ahead with practical experiments to develop a means of time travel, while outside the everyday world fell victim to more and more plagues, strikes and rioting. The world was on the brink of chaos. Could the small band of scientists and chrononauts at Penheniot Village find a safe method of escape into the future before the violence and death outside destroyed them too?

Pickpick

This dystopian story, a rich man trying to create a time machine to escape to the future while the present world is falling apart, was both surreal and satirical at times. Its attitude towards sex and women was totally early 60s sci-fi. 3⏰⏰⏰ 1/2

About twenty years before this story begins - give or take a few years, the Simmons s.b. effect being untried and seriously (not that it matters) inaccurate - the desolate silence of Penheniot Village, at the top of Penheniot Pill which is a creek off the small harbor of St. Kinnow in the county of Cornwall, was shattered by the practiced farting of young Roses Varco.

I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description or reason for wanting to read the book. Some are old and some will be new. Don't judge me - I have a lot of books.

“Finally even Roses became helplessly drawn into the insane killing that surrounded him. Now there was only one way out: get away from the whole world, go into the future. But would the future be any better?”
