My first foray in #serieslove2023 - the first book in the Philo Vance series. I'm only a few pages into it; so, we'll see. 👀

@Andrew65 @TheSpineView

Andrew65 These look good, I will be interested to hear your thoughts on them. 2y
TheSpineView It has books on the cover, that is always a good start. 2y
MaGoose @TheSpineView Yes, I think so to. 2y
Jess_Read_This Oh! This looks interesting! The intro by Ragnar Jonasson caught my eye. I‘ve really enjoyed Jonasson‘s books. If he‘s doing the intro, this one ought to be good! 2y

Pickpick

Philo Vance, America's most popular fictional detective of the 1920s and 1930s, moved from S. S. Van Dine's novels onto the silver screen and later radio. The aristocratic amateur sleuth was portrayed in more than 100 radio broadcasts by Jackson Beck. Return to the scene of the crime in eighteen classic whodunits.

I listened to these radio broadcasts and found them very interesting. If you love classic whodunits, these stories are for you!

Bklover Makes me think of listening to Mystery Theater on the radio a loooong time ago! 6y

Listening to this today:
Philo Vance is a fictional character featured in 12 crime novels written by S. S. Van Dine, published in the 1920s and 1930s. Vance was immensely popular in books, movies, and on the radio. He was portrayed as a stylish, even foppish dandy; a New York bon vivant possessing a highly intellectual bent.

If anyone is making a list of mystery series with detectives so insufferable that you hope the murderer gets away with it, then let me recommend S.S. Van Dine's Philo Vance. I usually like this sort of cozy puzzle (with floorplans!) but the annoying detective, the clueless cops, and the victim-who-had-it-coming had me rooting for the killer.

revenge4porgy One of my favorite cozy series is the one by Parnell Hall (of course I forgot the name of the series), lol! The other cozy writer that might interest you is Miranda James. She writes a series based on a Southern Librarian who brings a cat to work with him, turns into an amateur detective. 7y
swynn Librarian detective-- how can I resist? I've attached the first in the series as TBR. 7y
revenge4porgy Also check out Murder in the Reference Room 7y
swynn @revenge4porgy Hmm, can't find a listing for that one ..... 7y
revenge4porgy I think it might be Murder in the Manuscript Room. Sorry 😐 7y
