Sisters Like Us | Susan Mallery

The grass is always greener on your sister's side of the fence...Divorce left Harper Szymanski with a name no one can spell, a house she can't afford and a teenage daughter who's pulling away. With her fledgling virtual-assistant business, she's scrambling to maintain her overbearing mother's ridiculous standards and still pay the bills, thanks to clients like Lucas, the annoying playboy cop who claims he hangs around for Harper's fresh-baked cookies.Spending half her life in school hasn't prepared Dr. Stacey Bloom for her most daunting challenge--motherhood. She didn't inherit the nurturing gene like Harper and is in deep denial that a baby is coming. Worse, her mother will be horrified to learn that Stacey's husband plans to be a stay-at-home dad...assuming Stacey can first find the courage to tell Mom she's already six months pregnant.Separately they may be a mess, but together Harper and Stacey can survive anything--their indomitable mother, overwhelming maternity stores and exes' weddings. Sisters Like Us is a delightful look at sisters, mothers and daughters in today's fast-paced world, told with Susan Mallery's trademark warmth and humor.

Sometimes the best romance is with a best friend! Two sisters who are completely different and in completely different circumstances find themselves fully and completely in love as they struggle with what life throws at them.

⭐⭐⭐✨
I really enjoyed this easy, feel good story...until the ending. I'm torn on how to feel about the way Harper's storyline ends. As a strong, independent woman, it's a little off-putting to read what her relationship goes through and how it finishes. However, the writing was good and I enjoyed the multi-person perspectives.

I absolutely disliked bunny's character. Otherwise, typical susan mallery which is a comfort read for me.
Book 10 of 16 for #bookfitnesschallenge
@wanderinglynn

Clwojick I always find these books perfect for when your looking for something simple and light. Perfect for when you‘ve read too many heavy or dark books in a row, and you just want something that‘ll make you smile. ♥️ 5y
audraelizabeth @Clwojick I agree, I also read them to restore my faith in humanity and restore my hope in love. 5y

Clwojick Also, I can‘t wait to see what you think about Zoo2. I loved the first one and I‘ve been meaning to read the sequel for a while but I haven‘t found it at the thrift store yet. 5y
audraelizabeth @Clwojick Thank you. I enjoyed the first one. I also enjoyed the show until the last season. I borrow almost all of my books from the library. 5y

She sat up and told herself she didn't actually mind getting older only to stop and realize that was total crap. No on wanted to get older but she thought maybe if she had something of a personal life, she might not mind as much.

As I am heading towards 30 this year, I can relate to this. Im still single and no prospects on the horizon.

wanderinglynn I‘m in my 40s and am “still” single, and yet I‘ve had an amazingly fun life so far. My advice is that you don‘t have to have a romantic partner to have a full & amazing life. In fact, I‘ve seen people miss out on so much because they were waiting/searching for “the one.” Having a personal life, to me, means a lot more than just romantic relationships. 5y
audraelizabeth @wanderinglynn I definately dont actively look but I have always wanted kids. I dont really socialize much which is definately a bigger problem. I stopped using facebook because I kept comparing myself to others and it wasnt good for my mental health, which is why i also dont talk to my dads papers. 5y
wanderinglynn Yeah, comparing yourself to others is never a good idea, particularly via social media because people always put on a good face for social media. And remember, there‘s always ways to have kids, even without a partner. A good friend of mine adopted, by herself. 💜 5y

CarolynM I agree about the comparing yourself to others thing - it's a trap and you have to work to stay out of it. As for getting older, as my mother has always said, it's better than the alternative 😂 5y
audraelizabeth @wanderinglynn your totally right. I live in ohio and work in west virginia and there is a lot of kids in the foster system because of opiod addiction. I asked the nurse in my doctors office in february about timelines for fertility and she said being healthy i have 5 years until its riskier but still doable. 5y
audraelizabeth @CarolynM you and your mother are right. My dads mom always says growing old is a priveledge because she has outlived all of her family. My moms dad has outlived all of his male siblings and longer than his dad. 5y
wanderinglynn I have several friends who had their first baby at 40 or in their early 40s. Yes, there are more risks, but it‘s still an option. 5y
audraelizabeth I know. 5y

I enjoyed listening to this installment in the Mischief Bay series. I'm not sure if I've read and listen to all of the books yet? I may have missed something along the way but listening to the book certainly made me laugh out loud at times 😂
