30 book recommendations in 30 days...

Day 19: As with almost all books I recommend, this one is not great if you are someone who has any specific subject matter that is difficult for you - there are just a lot of things that happen that aren't easy to read & think about. I am a sucker for books that shatter my heart into pieces; I have no idea why. That being said, I have gone back to this one for multiple re-reads over the years. #30recsin30days

Re-reading this for a buddy read! It's been a good 15+ years since I read Not Wanted on the Voyage, and I remember loving it even though it had me shook. Not sure how this is going to go...Past Me's taste in books seems pretty hit or miss these days.

I like to think the above pic is how the story ends in an alternate universe. 😐

A postmodern re-telling of the story of Noah and the Ark by Canadian writer Timothy Findley. The narrator is a cat named Mottyl who belongs to Noah's wife.
I loved it when I read it. My best reading friend hated it. It's THAT kind of book.

Melissa_J I loved this book! 7y
LeahBergen I loved it. Look, @elkeo ! 👍🏻 7y
merelybookish @Melissa_J @LeahBergen Is Findley still a literary giant in Canada? He is not known at all in the US. 7y

LeahBergen @merelybookish He died in 2002 but he is still pretty much an institution here. I think he is most well-known now for 7y
merelybookish @LeahBergen Thanks! In the 90s, he seemed on par with Atwood in the Canlit world. But I wondered if that had changed. The only other book of his I've read is Headhunter which I think is somewhat responsible for my fear of birds. 😯 7y
elkeOriginal @LeahBergen Perfect timing! 7y
Melissa_J @merelybookish @LeahBergen To be honest I don't hear much about these days, and never had to read him in school, but as Leah mentioned The Wars is often cited when discussing Canadian lit. Not Wanted is actually the only book of his I've read. 7y

This sounds so interesting! It was the Canada Reads selection in 2008 and called 'a modern Canadian classic' by the esteemed @LeahBergen - but I think the real question is where has this been all my life?

brilliantglow I've never even heard of this😮 #stacked 7y

Although it doesn't necessarily show up well in the picture, these books have been read so many times they practically maintain the shape of my hands! A Prayer for Owen Meany actually started falling apart and I had to get a second copy. Also on my second copy of The Handmaids Tale! #welllovedbooks #riotgrams #couldliveinsidethese
