I have owned this book for several years and when I decided to read it of course I couln‘t find it so off to the library for their copy. This is a series of essays on the joy, angst, ritual, recipes and decadence of eating alone. I love a solo meal- selecting what I want and making it to my taste- those odd pairings that remind you of certain times in your life and, yes, occasionally the blue box mac and cheese and canned tomato soup are my joy4🌟

This quote made me laugh! This book is a collection of essays about what we cook and eat when we are alone. Steve Almond‘s essay is titled “an almost foolproof plan to never eat alone again”. I recommend this book- the writers are excellent (e.g. Marcella Hazan, Amanda Hesser, Dan Chaon). Happy frosty Wednesday morning!🥶

JanuarieTimewalker13 I love eating alone. I don't have to talk and can concentrate on the deliciousness of the meal. 7y
JanuarieTimewalker13 @MarticaMustRead Now I'm hungry. Lol 7y

EvieBee @JanuarieTimewalker13 @MarticaMustRead I do, too!! When I saw this book at the bookstore I just picked it right up! 7y
JanuarieTimewalker13 @EvieBee84 it's funny how once you enjoy eating alone, when you eat with others you realize you just scoffed down a meal without properly paying attention to what you have eaten. I think a policy of silence should be enforced at meal time...lol I like to just nod and give a thumbs up and mutter mmmmm...I moan a lot when I eat. Ok, I'm going to make spaghetti...I've been hungry for hours...lol 7y
EvieBee @JanuarieTimewalker13 Haha! Mmm spaghetti. I wonder what I should make. 7y
Bookcation74 I 💜this book! I think someone bought it for me when I first moved into my own real apartment... 12 years later I still open it up! 7y
EvieBee @Bookcation74 That is awesome! Though o purchased it a long time ago, I have been delaying the gratification of it. Sigh. Why do I do that to myself? I need to read it! 7y

One of my secret favorite books that I hold close to my heart is called Alone in the Kitchen with an Eggplant. I absolutely love the collection because it's all about the question: what do you cook for yourself when you're all alone and nobody is looking?

Cooking for myself (especially lunch!) is such a simple pleasure - I get to make something pretty and healthy and satisfying for one ❤️. What do YOU cook for yourself when you're all alone???

EvieBee I am looking at my copy of this book on my shelf and thinking I should pull it off the shelf and read the first essay. I love soup! I love prepping it and let it simmer slowly. 8y
josie281 Chorizo and eggs! 8y
KarenUK Often eggs, with whatever veggies I can find to add to them.... 8y

BooksForEmpathy @EvieBee84 Yes!! It's one that maybe the idea of is more profound/interesting than the individual stories. I just love thinking about and knowing what other people make for themselves when they don't have to please anybody else. I am also a fellow soup fan! Simmering slowly is just so cozy and smells delicious!! (edited) 8y
BooksForEmpathy @josie281 CHORIZO!!! Yum. @KarenUK Thanks for sharing... sounds good ☺! 8y
Lacythebookworm That book sounds great! I like to eat salami or prosciutto, a nice cheese, and crackers 😋 8y
DreesReads Soba noodles, veggies (often leftover from dinner), tofu, peanut sauce, and cold pickled veggies. 8y
saresmoore Looks delicious! I usually make an elaborate salad with unconventional ingredients and layered flavors. It's special since my kids want each meal component separated. 🙄 8y
mcipher I love doing something with veggies that the boys won't eat. Or Thai, Indian, anything non-meat and potato American boy food. 8y
Owlizabeth I love that book and I completely forgot about it until right now!! Thanks for the reminder 🤗 8y
mauveandrosysky When I'm alone I put together weird, simple meals made up of random things I'm craving. Yesterday for lunch I ate a rice cake with peanut butter and a side of tater tots and I was totally satisfied 😄 8y
