The tagged HF won him the Pulitzer Prize; though he wrote many more books. Many became movies. He lived to 103!

A good read. From Ens. Willie Keith‘s perspective, what goes around comes around.

This was crammed with description but maintained a decent pace throughout. I found my opinion of the main personalities kept changing over the course of the book; a challenging case indeed. Recommended for travel or for long afternoons at home, to get stuck into it properly.

I'm at a work conference for a few days. I packed these three print books, and I have ebooks on my iPad, and I have audiobooks on my phone.
Me: "I still don't think I've packed enough books."
BF: "I think you have enough books."
Joke's on him; I finished the tagged book just now ?

shanaqui It's always the way! Me and my wife have this identical conversation every time I pack for anything. 5y
rabbitprincess @shanaqui I've managed to avoid packing print books when visiting my parents, but everywhere else it's this kind of situation 😁 5y

Blueberry @Joyfulmimi Maybe I should move them up the tbr and read them this summer. Since I work in education I have a long summer break to read chunksters. 5y
DrSabrinaMoldenReads I read them many years ago and I remember it being one of my most enjoyable reading experiences. @Blueberry 5y

I read this for a military history class in undergrad, and I liked it so much that I didn't sell the book back at the end of the semester. #sail #lyricalapril

I read a lot of good books in 2016, but for me there was a clear fiction and non-fiction favorite! #seasonsreadings2016 #Bestof2016

Listened to this book several months ago. Essentially a coming of age story for the narrator Willie Keith, a well off young man living without purpose who joins the navy in WW2 rather than being drafted into the Army. Keith is assigned as a junior officer under a series of Captain's including the tyrannical and vindictive Queeg, a long term navy man whose action may endanger the crew and who is subject to a mutiny by his XO. The story doesn't

Oblomov26 End with the mutiny and its ramifications, but continues as Keith assumes responsibility which he lacked and ultimately takes command of the Caine and returns to America with new focus and purpose 8y

The Caine Prize for best African Short Story of the Year was awarded to South African writer Lidudumalingani's "Memories We Lost." http://static1.squarespace.com/static/565c3d39e4b027c789ba5b70/t/5731edd627d4bdb...

Yossarian Read it and tell me what you think! (It's only 12 pages.) 8y
ChasingOm Oooh, neat! 8y
Simona @Yossarian I like it. This story touched me, it's sad and I think that is her strength in a simple narrative style. 8y
Tanner I liked it too; some of the language just struck me, such as "abducting the entire village from their sleep." 8y
