The Siren and the Specter
The Siren and the Specter | Jonathan Janz
5 posts | 11 read | 17 to read
When David Caine, a celebrated skeptic of the supernatural, is invited by an old friend to spend a month in "the most haunted house in Virginia," he believes the case will be like any other. But the Alexander House is different. Built by a 1700s land baron to contain the madness and depravity of his eldest son, the house is plagued by shadows of the past and the lingering taint of bloodshed. David is haunted, as well. For twenty-two years ago, he turned away the woman he loved, and she took her life in sorrow. And David suspects she's followed him to the Alexander House.FLAME TREE PRESS is the new fiction imprint of Flame Tree Publishing. I found this haunted house story to be genuinely terrifying at times, and impossible to put down. However, the dialogue between the characters was completely unbelievable, and the characters were mostly one dimensional. There are some sickening plot points, but it was the ending that didn‘t work for me and moved it to so-so. Over the top, overdone, inexplicable. It fell apart and stopped being scary and felt silly. #klausthekitten #catsoflitsy

I‘m honestly surprised by how much I enjoyed this having read another book by this author that I didn‘t really like at all. Fast paced, creepy and at times a little graphic but it wasn‘t overwhelming. I found myself glued to my seat as I was trying to figure out what was going on. “The Siren” is misleading which is unfortunate and the MC was slightly irritating but the mystery surrounding the Alexander House was a page turner. #teamslaughter

Just finished this book. It was a bit of a slower start but well worth it. I realize some parts won't be everyone's cup of tea, there are topics that no one ever likes to hear about, but I still enjoyed the story overall

3 3/4 stars. Warning: This book is NOT for the faint hearted. It is pretty gruesome. Much more graphic than Stephan King and Dean Koontz.

MayJasper Thanks for the warning 6y
