A few years ago, I cooked some sausages at midnight. Now midnight sausages are my personal Readathon tradition.
I read a Holly Black story while I fried these two. The Lightspeed issue I pulled it from isn‘t in Litsy‘s database, but the story was a reprint from the tagged anthology. I enjoyed it very much.
I‘m now at 11:59 for #dewyapril, so I‘m definitely gonna hit 12 hours. I‘m also tired enough that I can‘t do words good.
Our latest #LiteReads week is ending as we finish up with Mothers, Lock Up Your Daughters Because They Are Terrifying by Alice Sola Kim. This short horror story is a fascinating and fun ride, the kind that is easy to simply enjoy or to take a deep dive into. I enjoyed it a lot, and I hope the filming rights being sold leads to something good. Full review in the link below. Let me know in the comments what you thought.

Our new #litereads pick is Mothers, Lock Up Your Daughters Because They Are Terrifying by Alice Sola Kim. This was chosen with Asian Heritage Month in mind, as it is in May. This horror story is about South Korean girls who were adopted by American families, and learn about a spell that can summon the spirit of their Korean mothers. Link to read in my full intro post linked below. Tell us what you think in the comments.

Good stories! I only disliked one of them, pretty impressive for an anthology. Also, this book is a lovely artifact - I love the little illustrations for each story, and I LOVE the cover.
Also, the cover fits the #EasterExtravaganza egg hunt - the title is raised!

Also, shoutout to Monstrous Affections, which -could- be a YA collection chasing trends but instead has opted to cast a wide net on both monstrosity and affection. Sometimes the krakens are you siblings! Sometimes the demons are your friends! Sometimes a mob forces you to marry a magical hill!
M. T. Anderson just can't not write something heartbreaking, huh?
What an excellent collection! 😱
I enjoyed all of the stories, but “Moriabe‘s Children” by Paolo Bacigalupi (it has a kraken) and “The Diabolist” by Nathan Ballingrund (kind of like frankenstein) were by far my favorite. I love when the creepiness is in the atmosphere and it just slowly slips under your skin. I need to read more!!

My haul from the Thriftbooks sale. They're going to need a little tlc vis a vis the stickers, but they're in pretty good shape!
