A couple makes room in their home for a young boy left on their porch with a note saying his family would come get him when they could. It was a bittersweet little story and could have used some more substance.

SaturnDoo I read this a while back but wasn't impressed but do like other works by this author 5y
Nebklvr @SaturnDoo Moo was great. This would have been better if there had been more info about Jacob 5y
SaturnDoo @Nebklvr I just read Moo a few weeks ago and really liked it. I agree, this was lacking in that area. I think a lot of readers had that same issue. 5y

A WAW book award winner, The Boy on the Porch tells the story of a young couple taking care of a boy mysteriously left on their farmhouse porch. Although the book was touching, it felt like it was written more for adults than children. Even so, I can see foster parents and foster children enjoying this slim novel. #audiobook #OverDrive #childrensbook

I always have a collection of #bookmarks, but I'm just as likely to use a post-it on a daily basis. Then when I find important information for future reference or examples to share with my students the post-its end up in pieces. That would include my copy of The Boy on the Porch with lots of figurative language examples.

The Boy on the Porch is not only a fabulous read for children grades 3 and up, but deeply captivating for adults as well. Sharon Creech shows that family isn't always strictly defined, and that everyone has the power to change the world.
