This is a light pick for me. While the story was good and engaging the writing left a lot to be desired. It is also apparently the 5th in a series. It didn‘t seem to matter as far as the storyline goes but would have been nice to know before reading.

We travel from present-day Italy and back to the 1930‘s during Hitler‘s regime in Germany.

A very absorbing dual-timeline that will immediately capture your interest with detailed descriptions of the characters and events.

Historical fiction fans, opera fans, and fans of Mr. Balson‘s books definitely will not be disappointed in his newest beauty.

I've always wondered how the international Red Cross overlooked the concentration camps. According to Balson, Theresienstadt was the cover-up whenever a nation wanted to investigate. His books are always so informative and he finds ways to connect obscure facts to today's times.

I struggled a bit w/the alternating story lines at the beginning of the story as it was hard to get invested in either story line. However, once we got to the meat of both stories, I became immersed in them.

Alternating between WWII &present day, we read of Ada, a talented violinist &German Jew, &the latest case of Liam &Cat-a land dispute in Italy.

Balson does a great job at slowly unraveling both stories &then bringing them together.

2🌟. I thought this was poorly written. “ her dress was as smooth as milk”. Really. The story was somewhat intriguing, but not enough. #meh

I‘m trying this audiobook. It‘s had mixed reviews. I‘m not terribly enamored yet.

Finished wrapping the presents last night which means a little extra reading time on this Christmas Eve!

Lots of cleaning and Christmas prep to get done today, but I‘m trying to make some time to get into a new book, too!

After reading Once We Were Brothers and The Girl from Berlin, Ronald H. Balson has become one of my favorite authors. Review will be tomorrow. I‘m regretting for not keeping Once We Were Brothers. Both of these books are heck a lot better than Nightingale, and All the Light We Cannot See!!

I meant to just read the first chapter of this tonight, but I‘m a hundred pages in and don‘t want to stop. Historical fiction that moves back and forth in time from World War II in Europe to the present day, Balson is a master at creating suspense and developing his stories.

This book was excellent. It jumps from current day in Italy to Berlin during the reign of Hitler. You are reading a memoir of Ada Baumgarten and trying to figure out how it connects to the current day.
If you like fiction set during World War II and earlier then you will enjoy this novel.

I just finished THE GIRL FROM BERLIN by Ronald H. Balson.

It was FANTASTIC.

Dual timeline - 1930‘s Germany to present day in Italy.

The connection was a journal written by the main character who was a famous violinist.
