Werewolves: An Illustrated Journal of Transformation | Paul Jessup
12 posts | 10 read | 8 to read
Werewolves takes the form of an illustrated journal that plunges readers into the life of a high school girl-turned-werewolf as she makes her transformation. After Alice and her brother are bitten by what they assume are large dogs, her journal/sketchbook becomes a place for her to record the changes they start to experience her socially awkward brother falls in with some creepy new friends, and she surprises herself with new strengths and instincts and a suddenly nonvegetarian interest in raw steak. Joining the werewolf pack that bit them, they discover the pleasures and dangers that come with the cycles of the moon, including threats from "hunters" who stalk them, a researcher seeking a cure, and escalating violence within the pack itself. With a fresh take on the lore and legend, Werewolves gives fans a ripping tale to sink their teeth into.

This one is filled with brilliant illustrations, the writing is large print so it doesn't take long to read and can be read in one sitting.

It reads like a diary with each couple of pages covering a day.

If you're a zombie-lover like me, this is probably right up your alley.

I really liked it, it was different from anything else I've read.

Quick, easy reading.

I see authors talk about writing and I feel that there are some that would agree.

This was a fun, quick read! Recommended for the scientific angle on zombie physiology and epidemiology.

I checked out the audiobook and the ebook from my library, and it was odd and interesting how they were different from each other. The audio version is, of course, missing the drawings, but it seems to have extra description that isn't included in the ebook. The acting is good, too - I think the two versions complement each other well.

well.read.panda Thanks to @lk7575 for recommending this to me! 7y
well.read.panda Also @lk7575, I enjoyed the narrator's penchant for baked beans 😁 7y
UrsulaMonarch @well.read.panda fun! Interesting/ weird about the audiobook- I thought the illustrations were kind of cute but not particularly vital 7y
UrsulaMonarch @well.read.panda & it's reassuring there will still be some creature comforts post-zombie apocalypse 😉 7y

Fun, quick, exciting #zombie #romp. Nothing too new but it's a great genre addition & I loved the ending as well! #belatedhalloween

When your random review on Goodreads carries over to Twitter, and the author sees it, likes it, and then Retweets it. 😱

It‘s a small world and getting smaller every day!

No_One So cool! 7y

Good short story, some great drawings...perfect for a Halloween read for fans of the Walking Dead and the side mini webisodes.

One more for #Booktober #somethingborrowed. I've had this for a couple years. When I apologized to my friend for hanging on to his book for so long, he'd forgotten not only that he'd lent it to me, but also forgot that he owned it and told me to keep it! So it's not really borrowed, I guess I own it now. Anyway, it seems like an appropriate pick for #Scaretober!
