Whose Boat Is This Boat?
Whose Boat Is This Boat?: Comments That Don't Help in the Aftermath of a Hurricane | The Staff of the Late Show with Stephen Colbert
9 posts | 15 read | 6 to read
100% of The Late Shows proceeds from this book go to hurricane relief. Whose Boat Is This Boat? Comments That Dont Help in the Aftermath of a Hurricane is a picture book made entirely of quotations from President Donald Trump in the wake of Hurricane Florence. It is the first childrens book that demonstrates what not to say after a natural disaster. On September 19, 2018, Donald Trump paid a visit to New Bern, North Carolina, one of the towns ravaged by Hurricane Florence. It was there he showed deep concern for a boat that washed ashore. At least you got a nice boat out of the deal, said President Trump to hurricane victims. Have a good time! he told them. The only way his comments would be appropriate is in the context of a childrens bookand now you can experience them that way, thanks to the staff of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Whose Boat Is This Boat? is an excellent teaching tool for readers of all ages who enjoy learning about empathy by process of elimination. Have a good time!

It‘s sad that this is nonfiction and all of these things were actually said by a president. They show a complete lack of empathy, so I can‘t really say I wish it were longer. I can certainly see how many more similarly themed books could be created in the aftermath of the manmade disaster that is the 45th president of the United States of America. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻

GingerAntics If nothing else, this is a really good book to teach kids not to vote for reality tv stars but for actual leaders. #StephenColbert #WhoseBoatIsThisBoat 4y
Traci1 I have this fear that it will become some sort of fame game. You have people like The Rock saying they're thinking of running, and then people saying put Tom Hanks as his running mate. Now, I like these guys. I think Tom is smart and nice and would probably surround himself with smart people, BUT we need someone who has studied law and history AND is a decent person. Surely in all of America, there have to be a few that qualify. 4y
GingerAntics @Traci1 right? I feel the exact same way. Oprah was going to run at one point. The My Pillow guy wants to be governor of MN now, he toyed with running for president earlier this year. No idea why. He‘s a huge fan of Trump, so I can‘t imagine that ending well. Most elected officials haven‘t actually studied history beyond great man history which annoys me, but I‘ll take a decent understanding of the constitution. 4y

Sigh. I sure miss having a president who was intelligent enough to recommend good literature instead of one who accidentally “wrote” a book based on the stupid things he said/tweeted after a natural disaster. 😖

Dolly 🤭Agreed. One worry is what kids are learning today. 5y
Freespirit I read a few of Barach Obamas recommendations😍 5y

1) Work & study
2) Other than the fact that I have been very blessed with some wonderful family & friends, I also once won a trip to LA on Friday the 13th.
3) I think this is the only book I've finished this month...I promise once I can stop studying, I will be getting so much more recreational reading done!
4) So many, but I'm going with Mary Shelley.

While at the bookstore, I also read this. Even for a children's book, it's very simple and poorly written, which can't be helped since it's written using actual quotes. I also wish that it was longer, maybe a book devoted to all inappropriate comments by 45 would be satisfying...although that may get to be too long. 😅 Overall, it was fine for a one time read.

AriThomas It's not a children's book, it's actually shelved in the humor section. At least in my store it is 😂 5y

Okay, okay. So technically this book is not on topic, but do I get extra points for being petty? #tinyhands

emtobiasz Our cataloguer put this in children‘s books based on the format alone. I had to walk it back to her and say “uh, I don‘t think this is a kids‘ book...” 😬 5y

The pictures are very illustrative. I have already read this to my son a couple of times.
