The Fox | Frederick Forsyth

Since my mom‘s library is closed, I want to send her some books. I‘m getting her the tagged, but I would like to send her a couple more.

She likes thrillers, spy-type novels, and NCIS-type books. Two of her favorite authors are David Baldacci and Lisa Jackson (& she‘s read all of their books).

These are not my genres or authors so I‘m asking for some recommendations. Nothing too gory or scary.

Lucy_Anywhere Mick Herron's Slough House books are great spy books - the first book is Slow Horses. Bit sweary, though - I don't know if that's a problem 5y

ErinSBecker James Abel's White Plague and Protocol Zero are excellent medical detective thrillers, but may be too realistic to read right now... 5y

ErinSBecker For spy novels, Alyssa Cole's Loyal League series is good. Historical romance / civil war espionage. 5y

Oblomov26 Alan Furst has a very good series of historical spy tales usually set pre or during ww2. Also if she has not read Le Carre he is as good as people say. 5y

TheAromaofBooks Not sure if she would enjoy stretching out to historical mysteries, but the Brother Cadfael books are favorites of mine - amazing context & characters, & the series really builds as it progresses (one of those series that has to be read in order). First book -

🌝 I didn‘t make any resolutions this year because last year‘s batch all fizzled in the early months of 2019. Too much of everything gets in the way. I have decided to read more of my already owned books with greater fervor and determination. I hope to purchase less books, but that is my area of fragility.

Not that any illness is ever a good time, but I am dealing with my least favorite way to be sick.🤢🤮
A stomach irritation is paying an unwelcome visit and though I thought there would be significantly increased reading time due to an early departure from work yesterday I was gravely incorrect. Today is allowing a do-over...I‘m still in bed but I can sit up. This is the book that was closest at hand.👇🏽

Nute This choice might be surprising to some of you, but books with international intrigue and technological espionage use to call out me all hours of the night. I was always losing sleep over the thrill of this kind of story. If any type of book can get me through this bout of ‘yuckiness,‘ this is it! 5y

I‘m visiting Warsaw, Poland right now and I got to say that I am loving their literary culture! Coffeeshops and cafes are frequently decorated with artful stacks of books on shelves, I frequently see people reading on public transit, and it is not uncommon to see ads for books splayed across the city. Amazing!

What is the literary scene/culture like in wherever you are right now, be it your home or on your travels?
