In this haunting and moving debut novel that echoes the emotional intensity of "The Pianist," a young woman must rely on her remarkable strength of character in order to survive the devastation of World War II.

Bailedbailed

I only got through two and a half chapters, but I just couldn‘t with this. The author is terrible at writing a teen girl, and all events & emotions are dialed up to 1000 all the time. Not for me. #bookspin

TheAromaofBooks Oh dear, sounds terrible! 4y

My ex bought me this book years ago and I remember reading the blurb and not being at all interested. Mia is a teenager in Poland during WWII. She escapes but her family dies in Auschwitz. I remember thing Dear God, not another WWII book. But I read it since he went to the trouble. And it was a five star read. All these years later, and I still remember being completely engrossed. #birdofparadise #winterwonderland

Bklover I‘ve had that “Dear God, not another WWII book” reaction myself. 5y
LauraJ We had to ban WWII books in my book club for a year because we had read so many. 5y

Cinfhen Hahaha same @Bklover @LauraJ we‘re still on a WWII ban and it‘s been 4 years!!!! Who is that girl on the cover??? It‘s driving me mad. I wanted to say Selma Hayek but that makes no sense... Natalie Portman??? 5y
TrishB There are a lot of WW2 books about! 5y
Bklover Well Google has failed me. I cannot find who the gal on the cover is. I did, however, learn that the book was based on a real person, and that the author founded Kensington books, which publishes romance novels. @Cinfhen 💛💛💛💛 5y
Cinfhen Well thanks for trying @Bklover 😘 5y
