Becoming Dangerous
Becoming Dangerous: Witchy Femmes, Queer Conjurers, and Magical Rebels | Katie West, Jasmine Elliott
6 posts | 2 read | 2 reading | 5 to read
At the crossroads of #MeToo, #HexthePatriarchy, and the increasingly vocal feminist and LGBTQ+ movements comes a highly readable and moving collection of writings The difference between the witch and the layperson is that a witch already knows they are powerful. The layperson may only suspect. Becoming Dangerous is a collection of deeply personal essays by marginalized people operating at the intersection of feminism, witchcraft, and resistance about summoning power and becoming fearsome in a world that would prefer them to be afraid. Written by women artists, authors, columnists, comic book writers, fashionistas, performers, and video game designers, these essays are personal explorations about how and why rituals of resistance work for them. Their goal is to help readers summon their own power to resist, survive, and thrive.

I went to the park today so I could walk the Carol Shields Memorial Labyrinth, and for the first time ever I saw someone else in there! I started an essay from this witchy book while I waited for them to finish, then continued it once I‘d done my own walk and reached the (very mushy) heart. Along the way, I got a kick out of all the animal tracks and boot prints that showed in the wet earth. A deer visited not too long before me.

MemoirsForMe This is the first time I‘ve heard about this memorial labyrinth. How cool! 3y
xicanti @UwannaPublishme it‘s nicest in the summer, when all the plants have grown in, but it was pretty great even with the ground all spongy. 3y

Bedside book stack: May 1st edition. The Readathon is over, and now we start Gay May! I‘m beyond excited to spend the next month immersed in queer books, starting with these four. They‘re all #BlameItOnLitsy titles except for the tagged book, which I found when I searched for more work by Catherine Hernandez. #gaymay

Keeping my #weeklyforecast to a somewhat manageable level - despite the many audiobooks I have checked out from the library (none of the above btw) and the fact that I‘ve borrowed a few books from friends lately... 🤷🏻‍♀️😂
I‘m fairly confident I will start (and possibly finish) a majority of these by the end of the week.

TieDyeDude The Lady from the Black Lagoon was probably my favorite book from last year! 4y
Eyelit That‘s awesome! I‘m really looking forward to it 😃 @TieDyeDude 4y
MemoirsForMe Totally agree with @TieDyeDude I loved Lady from the Black Lagoon too! 👍🏻 4y

#GratefulReads Day 13: Almost #ReadInOneSitting but more like several as I waited for my flight from Albuquerque to New York and while waiting for my flight from NY to Dubai, and finally finished it while sitting on the airplane, the last leg of my trip back to the Middle East. I think I managed to finish four books while on this trip, so not too shabby, I think.

GatheringBooks @Hooked_on_books this is how it is described in the restaurant‘s menu: “Fresh fried funnel cake is topped with powdered sugar, fresh strawberries, cinnamon brown sugar ice cream, and drizzled with chocolate sauce.” All that and more! 5y
GatheringBooks @vivastory tastes amazing too! I gave a loud gasp when I saw it - because I am the only one eating everything on this plate! I must have gained ten pounds just looking at it. (edited) 5y
GatheringBooks @Cinfhen all kinds of yummylicious goodness indeed. 5y
Hooked_on_books Oh my god! I‘m so envious. I want one immediately! 5y
