Changeling
Changeling | Matt Wesolowski
11 posts | 10 read | 12 to read
On Christmas Eve in 1988, seven-year-old Alfie Marsden vanished in the Wentshire Forest Pass, when a burst tyre forced his father, Sorrel, to stop the car. Leaving the car to summon the emergency services, Sorrel returned to find his son gone. No trace of the child, nor his remains, have ever been found. Alfie Marsden was declared officially dead in 1995. Elusive online journalist, Scott King, whose Six Stories podcasts have become an internet sensation, investigates the disappearance, interviewing six witnesses, including Sorrel, his son and his ex-partner, to try to find out what really happened that fateful night. He takes a journey through the trees of the Wentshire Forest a place synonymous with strange sightings, and tales of hidden folk who dwell there. He talks to a company that tried and failed to build a development in the forest, and a psychic who claims to know where Alfie is... Intensely dark, deeply chilling and searingly thought provoking, Changeling is an up-to-the-minute, startling thriller, taking you to places you will never, ever forget. Bold, clever and genuinely chilling with a terrific twist that provides an explosive final punch Deidre OBrien, Sunday Mirror A genuine genre-bending debut Carla McKay, Daily Mail Impeccably crafted and gripping from start to finish Doug Johnstone, The Big Issue With a unique structure, an ingenious plot and so much suspense you cant put it down, this is the very epitome of a must-read Heat

Camping this week and getting caught up on reading. I love this series by Matt Wesolowski. They are small books, 6 in a series that read like a podcast.

Tamra Sounds interesting! 3y

I managed to read some excellent reads during November and Changeling is one of them. Already the third Six Stories book, and another story that managed to blow me away completely. A full review will be posted on my blog on the 13th, but I can give away a spoiler: it's absolutely spine-chilling and breathtakingly brilliant!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

vivastory I loved this one. It's the only 6 stories I've read so far, I definitely plan on remedying that. I noticed there's a 4th volume being released in a few weeks. 4y
yvo_about_books @vivastory the first two books are without doubt excellent too!! My favorite of the series is between Hydra and Changeling so far... And yes, book four Beast will be out soon! 😊 4y

I was just about to sit down and read for a bit when my kindle battery died... So I picked up my copy of Changeling instead even though I have a pile of other books I should probably read first. 🙈😍 #currentlyreading

vivastory This is a great one 4y
RachelAmphlett I‘ve got this on my Kindle and really should bump it up the list! (edited) 4y
yvo_about_books @RachelAmphlett I loved the first two and people keep telling me this one is even better. 4y

Wesolowski's book will easily end up on my best of the year list. In the format of a true crime podcast, the latest entry in the Six Stories series, investigates the mysterious disappearance of Alfie Marsden on Christmas Eve 1988. The site of the disappearance is Wentshire Forest Pass, an area that figures prominently in #urbanlegend There were a few scenes that deeply unsettled me & although I had figured out the ending, it was very well done.

RachelAmphlett I really must read this - it‘s been on my Kindle TBR since I heard Matt talking about it at CrimeFest last year! 😱📚📚 5y

I bought this adorable little flowerpot to celebrate Spring, and it looks so cute on top of my bookshelf! I decided to put together a little greyish blue bookstack to show it off. 📚😍 Also, I'm so ready to continue the Six Stories series and read Changeling! I still need to read Hydra first though...

LauraJ What a pretty pairing! 💙 5y

Do you ever read a book & it leaves you dissatisfied, so you immediately read another book with a similar plot hoping to satisfy the initial narrative craving? This was my experience with two books tackling the changelings folklore: CJ Tudor's disappointing sophomore release The Hiding Place & Wesolowski's satisfying The Changeling. Formatted as a true crime podcast (think Sadie) this is the third in the series & although it contains minor 👇

allureofbeauty I really enjoyed the first one. Need to read the other two. 5y
vivastory spoilers for the first two books, it's not necessary to read them first. Although I saw the twist coming it wasn't a cheap trick & there are plenty of mysterious events to unsettle the reader. I read this one on my Kindle, but I definitely think it'd be really interesting as an audio book because of the format. 5y
vivastory @allureofbeauty I will definitely be checking out the first one soon. I loved it 5y
Alfrazier21 I really love this series!!! 5y

Billypar Because this is fiction, I presume the next line isn't: "So, naturally, we packed up quick and got the hell out of there." ? 5y
Reggie @Biilypar no, they wait until dark and then split up to cover more ground. This sounds great. Stacked. 5y

I cannot get enough of this series, it is so good! I‘m so sad I‘m on the last one. My library system didn‘t have a copy, and even the inter library loan system couldn‘t help, so I just had to go and buy it on my kindle, because I couldn‘t wait to read it!

AnneFindsJoy Me too! Loved this series! It was great on audio too! 📚❤️ 5y

I love the #SixStories series. They always manage to completely suck me in. #Changeling was no different. If you are looking for a terrifying mystery with paranormal elements and lots of twists and turns, then you should definitely check this series out!

#booked2019 #relatedtoapodcast - I listened to Book 3 in the Six stories series. Each book is a fictional mystery written in format of a true-crime podcast. Very cleverly done, it draws you in, it is oozing with atmosphere and tension, has complex characters and interesting storylines with a twist! This is a unique experience, especially on audio!! Each books keeps getting better and better! (And they can be read standalone too) #ukauthor

Cinfhen Sounds really good! This prompt is leading me to both new books and new podcasts!!! 5y
AnneFindsJoy @Cinfen Yes totally, I love the intermingling of the two! 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Cinfhen Who knew this prompt would be so interesting?! I need so many more hours in the day now! 5y

BarbaraTheBibliophage Like your review, @AnneFindsJoy and good job in ✔️ the prompt! 5y
Alfrazier21 I‘m reading this now! I love the series. In Changeling he mentions the Bell Witch which the location where she ‘haunted‘ isn‘t far from me at all. We‘ve visited it several times! 5y
AnneFindsJoy @Alfrazier21 that is so cool! Glad you love the series too 📚😍 (edited) 5y
