Here's the thing about being Inside. Ain't no one believes that they are. Ele has never been Outside. She has never seen a tree or felt the rain. Her whole world is Inside With her books and the Others and Him. But here's the secret . . . Ele's getting out. For good. 'Impossible to put down - this is a writer to watch.' C.J. Skuse

Mehso-so

While it is very similar plot-wise to Room, this lacks the emotional impact & intensity of that novel, perhaps because it's pitched as YA. The narrative voice, which is such a tour de force in Room, here is inauthentic & inconsistent. There's a shallowness to it as well as a few niggly plot holes that prevents full engagement & restricted empathy. Moreover, I just don't believe in it. Drags in places & is a little repetitive. OK but only just OK.

Starting this one today. Getting Room vibes from the description.

With thanks to #netgalley for this book.

Pickpick

This is a compelling look at the human will to survive. It will inevitably be compared to Room but I think it stands up on it‘s own merits incredibly well. Full review on my blog if you feel like reading!

I received this e-arc from netgalley. My review is my own honest opinion.

Pickpick

Ele & the Others have been trapped inside by Him for as long as they can remember. Can they make their escape?

After a slow start, it picked up about a third of the way through. The ending was good enough that I‘m glad I stuck with it. 3.5🌟

TW: some descriptions of child abuse - thankfully brief & not too graphic.

Thanks to NetGalley & publishers, Penguin Random House UK Children‘s, for the opportunity to review an ARC.
