(Special guest appearance by Kevin...a clothes pin guy made by my now 20 yo daughter...who has an intricate, invented back story and has made appearances with our family at all kinds of places like Niagara Falls and the NC Outer Banks! For instance, he was involved in a lawn mower incident resulting in the loss of two toes and his favorite holiday is St. Patrick's Day! 😂)

I don't usually participate in these, but I am feeling festive today...
1. My absolute favorite Christmas song is O Holy Night. It gives me the shivers. A close second? I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas! 😂😂
2. Me and my 3 beautiful kids: Alexa, Eli, and Emmalyn
3. My Great Grandma's Christmas cookies, Lasagna
4. I haven't sent any in years...

#NFNovember was really #NFFall for me...ending with Nellie Bly's ground breaking undercover assignment at Blackwell's Island Asylum in 1887.
Of all the disturbing neglect and abuse suffered by those women there, it was perhaps most disturbing how easily one could be deemed crazy, even when sane. For Nellie, a refusal to sleep for 1 night at a boarding house for working women, a (fake) loss of memory, and enlarged pupils was about all it took!⭐⭐⭐

Lori gives us an honest, intimate look at therapy from both sides of the chair. I liked her narration and writing style. I walked away with a better understanding of the purposes of therapy...including the discovery of meaning within ourselves.

Waking up with a new nonfiction selection on this snowy, COLD (13° in NY) morning. I decided to rejoin Book of the Month Club and got it for free...I thought the "To be continued" book mark they included this month was oddly appropriate upon rejoining. ?

While the "editor" that resides inside my head was bothered by organizational issues and redundancies with this book, I loved Stephanie and think her story is such an important one! If you think it can't happen to you...it can! If you get a chance, read Maid and then follow her really awesome Facebook page!

"And maybe I can let go of the sting and resentment of the path not taken, because the path not taken isn't just the inverse of who I am. It's an infinitely branching system that represents all the permutations of my life between the extremes of me and Jason 2."
Another great selection from Crouch that explores the idea of a multiverse, infinite versions of ourselves and our lives, and reads much like watching a big budget thriller.

Chab256 "I've seen so many versions of you. With me. Without me. Artist. Teacher. Graphic Designer. But it's all, in the end, just life. We see it macro, like one big story, but when you're in it, it's all just day to day, right? And isn't that what you have to make peace with?"

My first 5 star read of the year...something a little outside my normal reading box...I really enjoyed the questions this book raises about memory, time, destiny, and human behavior. I will definitely pick up Crouch's previous novel Dark Matter in the future.

Usually if I'm going to read a book associated with a TV series or a movie, I read the book first. In this case, I watched the Netflix series first and found it is only very loosely based on the book. I am honestly not sure which I preferred. I have to say I liked Jackson's We Have Always Lived in the Castle better, but I enjoyed this one as well...a slow burn to an unexpected end.

I read and loved You way before the Netflix series. Hidden Bodies has met with mixed reviews here and while it was not as good as You, I liked it. Mostly because I enjoy Joe's head...the witty, humorous, narcissistic voice Kepnes gives this character. Does Joe finally get his undeserved, happily ever after now that he has transplanted from NY to LA? If you read it, what did you think of Love?? 😕

I enjoyed this selection, but I wasn't blown away. A fun premise highlighted some important issues facing Indian women in their communities and I was invested in some of the characters despite what I felt was a lack of depth in the writing style.

I liked the interview style of the book...it made for a fast 2 day read & also highlighted how one single reality can't exist as each person's perception & memory of the same event are different. I was drawn in by the story & couldn't wait to find out how it ended. I do wish there was an actual Aurora album in existence! I don't do audio books, but I almost wish I had for this one...I hear it was excellent.

I am so proud of the great readers both Eli and Emma have become...especially Eli. The Easter Bunny brought them their first chapter books. Junie B. Jones for Emma and Magic Tree House for Eli. They both dove in and Eli finished his in a weekend! Eli doesn't like to take too many pictures, but he was so proud of himself he agreed.

Maria: "Why do you say those things. Why do you fight?"
Carter: "To find out if you're alive."
This was my first experience with Joan Didion's fiction. The prose is sparse, but it packs a big punch. The story is dark, but moving. Maria is empty, but alive. It reminds me of Yate's Revolutionary Road in some ways. Read it...it could be read in one sitting!
