4 posts | 2 read | 1 to read
Bill Yoast is the real-life hero of Remember the Titans, the hit movie that chronicled the struggles of black and white high school football athletes to create a championship season in 1972 Virginia. A World War II veteran, Yoast helped to mold the lives of hundreds of men and women through his inspirational coaching style. Yoast offers his personal recollections from that now-immortalized season as well as the coaching philosophy he developed in over 30 years of his career.

Pickpick

I cannot express how much I loved this book! I wanted to read it because I am a little obsessed with Remember the Titans and thought it would be amazing to read an account of the real events. What I found in this book was so much more than that. It was life lessons and ways to be a better person. I cried a lot of tears when he talked about Gerry and the relationship he had with him. I highly recommend this book to everyone!!!

Laughterhp I didn‘t know there was a book. I was obsessed with this movie in high school. My coach used to make us watch this at least once a year in the library when it was raining and we couldn‘t practice. 4y

AsYouWish @AmyK1 I highly recommend it, I learned so much about him that I never thought of before. Now it might change how I watch the movie. 4y
AsYouWish @Gizmo86 This book definitely made me cry especially when he talked about Gerry and the accident and all that came after. 4y
AsYouWish @Laughterhp I was obsessed with it too!! We watched it for two weeks in Choir, we watched it once and then begged to watch it again so the teacher let us. I love this movie still, and I am not a football fan, so it shocks everyone how much I love this movie. 4y

I started reading this book yesterday and have already teared up about five times, and I am not even to him coaching the Titans yet!!!!! This gives way more backstory to an amazing man that we only got a sliver of in the movie.
